King Valley Dreaming

Never had I imagined just how grounded and at peace we'd feel in a Mongolian yurt atop the hill of a 300+ acre cattle farm. Our hearts feel so whole amidst these mountains. Surrounded by vintage grapevines and lush green paddocks, the serenity of this perfectly isolated property is unmatched.

Gazing out the panoramic window of an incredibly underrated rustic outdoor shower, we looked across expansive layered hills to spot the rocky cliffs of Mount Buffalo in the distance. The property is all but silent except for the twitter of native birds and that 'summer-is-coming' shrill of cicadas as the sun goes down. Add in the crackle of our wood-fired tub as its heating, and a few profound exhales to mark the sense of relief felt when you jump in. The views from this bath really don't get much better!

Scoring blue skies and hot days, we didn't need the cosy fire inside the yurt itself, but rather we awed at it's year-round suitability with the wool lined walls which kept us cool over our warm weekend. Bringing plenty of food meant we only had to wander for the sake of exploring and we spent hours lazing in the hammocks reconnecting with one another, before cooking up dinner on the campfire. The fairy lights twinkled beneath clear skies where we could spot shooting stars and later the moon through the glass dome of the yurt's ceiling.

The beauty of the King Valley sure did catch us by surprise. Dotted with picturesque wineries, breathtaking views and an incredible waterfall to boot - I know we'll be day dreaming of our return.

Wander 345 beautiful acres, surrounded by lush paddocks, mountain views and cute sheep and cows to say hello to. Across the ridge line from the yurt you'll find a stand of chestnut trees, and in the other direction you can look down over the paddocks where Ned Kelly kept his stolen horses!...

Stop in here for some delish wood fired pizza or European bakery treats. You can sit amongst the herb garden while you sip a local beer. There's a good selection of local wines for purchase here too!...

Buried deep in the King Valley and a little off the beaten track, these falls really are worth a visit. A lovely walk into a Utopian-like spot within the bush where the water plunges from such a height, back-dropped by rich red cliffs that look like they belong in the NT!...

Wander down the hill to find a fig tree as big as a house! Once you duck under the branches you'll find 'rooms' of shaded green to lie under. If the season's right you'd be foolish not to grab a few figs and heat them up on the wood fire for breakfast. Drizzle with maple and you've got yourself the most divine of nature's treats....
