A few things to remember to make your stay at Talisker Homestead a safe and enjoyable one for all:
* Please be careful when moving any furniture as our floors can be damaged. Please never drag anything if you wish to move it; lift it, and if you can’t lift it, leave it.
* While we are happy to welcome children, there are many decorative pieces around the house and the house is not child proofed as such - please be aware of this and take care.
• Please do not allow children to use highlighters or crayons inside
• Please monitor children with food and drinks, and do not allow them to have on soft furnishings if there is a risk of spillage
• Please ensure children take their shoes off when walking on carpets and rugs
* Talisker is a working farm with machinery, dams and other hazards. We ask that children are monitored at all times.
* All china and crystal on display in the house (i.e. not in cupboards) is not dishwasher safe and must be hand washed if used
* Pets are only allowed by prior arrangement. If we agree to host pets, they must have their own bed and must stay off all beds and furniture. They also must be monitored while outside
* Given Talisker is a working farm, there may be sheepwork happening and the owners (Andrew and Kate) may be on the farm at any given time. We generally try to let guests know what is happening on the farm, but if you see anything concerning, please always just call or message us.
* We have sheep and cattle on the property (in paddocks, not around the house but you may encounter them if you go for a walk). Sheep and cattle are not usually dangerous, but they are animals and we simply ask you to respect their space.
* Talisker is a historic building and the need to preserve the history of this beautiful building is paramount. To this end, we ask that care always be taken around the house – we have endless space to play cricket or kick a football, and we would ask that any activities be undertaken away from the house, and especially our leadlight windows.
* Any doors that have a piece of furniture in front of it will be a non guest area (parts of our servants’ quarters and the upper area of the tower are the two areas).
* Please use the heat and place mats on the dining tables as heat damages these (they are on the sideboard)
* It is an old house, please respect it and if something feels like it doesn’t want to be pushed, don’t push it - the door that leads into the verandah from the drawing room is a good example - it does work but it is stiff and has leadlight in it; please do not use.
* The kitchen can get overloaded and it makes the electricity trip. If it happens, the fuse box is just outside the kitchen but the easiest way is to just not use everything at once.
* The controls for the heating are on the screen opposite the church pew/main bathroom. The servants’ quarters heating is in the area where our new kitchen is being installed (through the first door on the left in the hallway). Please note while the system allows you to turn on cooling, it is a heater only.
* The inside fireplaces are for looks only, please do not use these.
* The fire pit is to be used only during colder months, when fire restrictions do not apply – please ask if you are unsure.
* Please note that farm machinery is not to be used.
* Please bear in mind that our property uses a septic system and only toilet paper can be flushed.
* There is a piece of furniture upstairs that is getting worked on currently (it cannot be removed from the room without getting taken apart) so please forgive us as it looks a bit shabby
* The wifi connection name and password Talisker

Hello and welcome to Talisker!
My husband Andrew and I bought this property in 2021 and plan to continue improving the property to preserve it for future generations.
We have local links but have also lived in Melbourne, Sydney, country NSW and the UK.
