Quintessentially Australian

Trawool, High Country, Victoria
This place is the perfect spot to get off the grid and recharge your soul with a healthy dose of nature and Australian wildlife. We managed to navigate through a friendly entourage of cows grazing along the gravel road that meanders through an epic landscape of rolling hills and boulders, overlooking the Goulburn River. We saw an abundance of wild Australian animals and birds – from kookaburras and kangaroos, to echidnas and koalas. We missed the elusive platypus but hey - there’s always next time!  This is the perfect location for anyone keen to slow the pace down, reconnect with nature and explore an area that’s quintessentially Australian. Bring your dog too, they’ll have hurt feelings if you don’t....

Where We Stayed

The Nest at Bush Hideouts

The Nest puts you at ease as soon as you step inside. The spacious cabin greets you with open arms. An incredible smell of wood and the cinders of previous sessions in front of the open fireplace gives you a bizarre sense of nostalgia, like you’re finally home. Wrap your way upstairs to a bed with an epic 360˚ view of the surrounding hills. It’ll be hard to wake up anywhere else once you’ve experienced this....

Things We Did

  • Walk
  • Food & Drink
Gourlburn River
We took a cruisy stroll down to the Goulburn River that meanders around the property. It was a bit nippy for a swim this time of year, but still an enjoyable view from the bank. Perfect setup for some kayak adventures and a swim in the summer. We'll be back for sure!...
Seymour Bushland Reserve
We hiked through Seymour Bushland Reserve, just a short drive up the road from The Nest. The place is teeming with wildlife. Tread lightly and make sure to look up as you might catch a koala having a snooze in the treetops...
The Brewer's Table
We scored a quality coffee and some breaky from The Brewer’s Table in Seymour. We then got lucky with a weekend market pop-up across the road, where the grazing continued with gozlemes, donuts and a cheeky pint of beer while local musicians kept the vibes up....
