Off-Grid Wool Farm Hideaway
Adventure in Mullion, Country NSW, NSW, AU
Usually, when we’re looking for somewhere to escape to for a weekend, we’re seeking solitude. Someplace where we can truly hide away from the world. And usually, we’re *kind of* secluded, but we’re still expecting to meet other people throughout the weekend. Horseshoe Hideaway though, is a genuine hideaway, where we achieved absolute solitude for our entire stay (except when we left the property to explore the local wineries!).
Arriving in the pouring rain, we squelched around for a bit, surveying our tiny home for the weekend. A deep, warm fog encircled us, making us feel like we were floating in the clouds. Much to our surprise, when we woke the next morning the fog had lifted and instead a vast, panoramic vista stretched out in every direction, with layer upon layer of undulating hills surrounding us.
We spent the morning living out our regional lifestyle dreams, sitting out on the verandah with a cuppa and a newspaper, before heading over to Canberra’s ‘Hills of Hall’ wine sub-region, where a community of vineyards offer divine tasting experiences with unrivalled views of the Brindabella Range.
Heading back to our little weekend home, we started to get pretty excited about the main event of the trip—Horseshoe Hideaway’s wood-fired hot tub… absolutely iconic. There was something incredibly satisfying about having to wait for it to heat up, in knowing that this off-grid set-up was completely self-sufficient and that we had everything we could ever need. While we waited, we enjoyed a fine drop of a local Tempranillo and a hastily put-together cheeseboard. Once warm, the hot tub experience felt otherworldly; sitting in the toasty tub while the sky opened up and rained down on us. Literal heaven.
How could I not mention the floor to ceiling window in the bathroom, complete with a ceiling-mounted huge rain shower head. Calling this shower luxe doesn’t even cut it.
Created by fifth-generation superfine merino farmers to share their favourite pocket of the farm with others, Horseshoe Hideaway was an absolute joy to visit. And being situated less than half an hour away from our home in Canberra, you can bet we’ll be back again sometime soon....

Things We Did
- 4WD
- Farm
- Winery
Mount Coree summit is one of the few higher elevation points that you can drive to. If you have a sturdy 4WD vehicle, head past Coree Campground and up to the summit. If you don't, you can park and hike up the rest of the way. The views at the top are stunning, taking in both Namadgi and Brindabella National Park. Don't try driving up this road unless your vehicle is well-equipped, especially if there's been recent rain....
The property that hosts Horseshoe Hideaway is a fifth-generation superfine merino farm. While you're nowhere near the current farming operations and so won't see any of that, you can wander the property nearby with acres of farmland and beautiful old eucalypts. You might even see some of the sheep if you're lucky!...
