Sleeping in a Bubble Under the Stars

The Northern New South Wales town of Tenterfield is quickly becoming a popular destination for weekenders and holidaymakers alike. It’s located three-and-a-half hours from Brisbane, and three hours from Byron Bay, which makes it the perfect place to explore for a weekend or longer stay. With four distinct seasons, it’s a place worth visiting over and over again. It has some of New South Wales's most beautiful autumn leaves, blossoms in Spring, beautiful frosts and clear skies in winter and warm, sunny days during summer.

After stocking up with supplies at the local butcher, fruit and vegetable store and grabbing some local wine, a five-minute drive from town will bring you to Mirumiru Bubbletent. It's a unique, glamping accommodation, where you can sleep in a Bubbletent under the stars.

The first thing you notice is the quietness of the location, which boasts beautiful views of Mount MacKenzie. With an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor shower, a vintage bath on the deck and a fire pit, Mirumiru has you covered for kitchen or campfire cooking and places to sit around with a cheese platter and glass or two of wine. Inside the bubble, you'll find a portable fridge and storage area for your belongings. There's a cosy and comfortable queen-size bed, while a side bubble is home to a bathroom with a compostable toilet and sink.

This off-grid glamping accommodation is the ultimate place to stay in the country if you want to explore the local villages, adventure to the neighbouring national parks, or simply switch off. Tenterfield is the perfect spot to view the night sky, with minimal light pollution and very clear skies, especially in winter. Laying in your bed and looking up at the stars at night is an experience you won’t easily forget.

Mirumiru is a place like no other; an amazing, off-grid experience that will leave you feeling recharged and relaxed.

Bald Rock National Park is located just 30 kilometres, or a 30-minute drive, from Tenterfield. It's the largest granite monolith in the Southern Hemisphere and a must visit when in the area. The summit walk is a 3.2-kilometre loop, which takes around 1–2 hours. You'll want to give yourself extra time to take photos and take in the views. Standing 260 metres above the surrounding bushland, Bald Rock provides stunning views of Boonoo Boonoo National Park, Girraween National Park and back across to Tenterfield....

Boonoo Boonoo is a beautiful national park located just near Bald Rock, so we managed to fit in visits to both parks in the same day. We discovered secluded swimming holes and a waterfall that plummets 210 metres into the gorge below. It's an easy, 10-minute walk to the viewing platform of the falls, and if you've visiting in the warmer months, be sure to take your swimmers for a dip in the swimming hole....

Mount MacKenzie lookout is located 1,300 metres above sea level and provides some of the best views in the Northern Tablelands. It has views over Tenterfield, across to Bald Rock National Park and Girraween National Park. The carpark is located right at the lookout, so no need for a long walk. During winter, you may even be lucky enough to see snowfall up there, which is a pretty special experience....
