Having never spent much time in the area we were super excited for our few days at The Log Box in Red Hill. We were greeted by our beautiful host Chloe who showed us through and we settled in quickly to the exceptionally comfortable cabin.

The Log Box Red Hill is a cozy cabin with a kitchenette, open living/bedroom space and a modern bathroom. The former machinery shed has been thoughtfully converted into a rustic but modern place to stay and has all of the amenities needed. Our favourite feature was by far the day beds that surround the fireplace which made perfect breakfast and afternoon nap locations. While we happily could have stayed nestled in bed during our time there, our 3-year-old probably wouldn’t have loved the idea so we explored the local area.

We stocked up on supplies at Red Hill Cellar & Pantry, (an amazingly well-stocked local grocery store), before lunch at Merrick’s General Store. The obligatory bottles of wine followed us back as well. While it wasn’t swimming weather we still made it to the beach at Point Leo and explored the rock pools, before heading to Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Gardens where our daughter loved finding the hidden gnomes and fairies.

Our big day finished with some fire cooked snapper and more wine, before the marshmallows were broken out and the battle of the most evenly goo-ified commenced. The last morning on the Peninsula saw us take in some views from the Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola, with coffee in hand (damn wine).

Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Gardens
Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Farm. Great bit of fun for a family, we went through all of the available mazes and completed the great gnome and fairy hunt!...
Rock Pools
Point Leo Beach Rock Pools. Who doesn’t like exploring rock pools? These were flat and very accessible with absolutely no one around, it was almost quiet enough to hear the crabs scuttling....
Merrick's General Store
Merrick’s General Store. A very tasty lunch and a couple of bottles of wine to take away. I’m told the egg and bacon roll is a must have for next time...
Fishing off Dromana Pier. We tried our luck with a couple of hand reels from the end of the pier. The fish we ate that night definitely wasn’t bought from the local IGA....
