Get Me Out Of The City

A weekend away with our good friends had been spoken about for a long time and was quite frankly long overdue. So one day when work and the big smoke, in general, all got too much, I decided to jump on Riparide.com and just pull the trigger. We wanted to find somewhere that offered the isolation of the countryside, but that had all the creature comforts of "home". When we stumbled across the Gabion Hill listing I knew straight away that we had to stay here. I sent the link to the group and got instant buy in. From the minute we arrived, we felt our blood pressures drop in unison and we all had that home away from home feel as soon as we walked through the front door.

The property was absolutely breathtaking and is oozing with luxury from wall to wall. We spent our nights in front of the fireplace (inside and out), cooking our own wood-fired pizza and sinking into some quality red wine. Our mornings were spent on the property feeding the ponies, getting fresh eggs from the chook pen, as well as enjoying the sounds and smells of the surrounding flora and fauna. There are plenty of nearby hikes and waterfalls for the outdoor inclined to sink their teeth into. We saw Hanging Rock, as well as Trentham Falls, both of which were no more than 30 minutes away from the property. If you are looking for a luxurious getaway with a loved one or friends, then look no further than this property. I simply cannot find the words to do our experience justice. A must see!

Where We Stayed

Accommodation

Gabion Hill

From the minute we arrived at the property, we knew we were in for a pretty special experience. The inside of the home is simply perfection. It's very rare to go away for a weekend, whilst still "feeling at home", but somehow this property makes you feel like this. The house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, an amazing coffee machine, stunning bath, cozy indoor fireplace, skylights, and even an outdoor pizza oven. A truly luxurious experience from floor to ceiling, wall to wall. I simply cannot fault anything about this place. What a magical experience. The location itself is absolutely breathtaking with no neighbors to be seen as far as the eye can see. We were constantly surrounded by all forms of nature (lorikeets, Kookaburras, Koalas, Alpacas, Ponies). The perfect location to kick back, enjoy good company and recharge, all in pure luxury....

Trentham Falls
This is actually the largest single drop waterfall in Victoria at a whopping 32m. If you manage to see these falls after there has been some rain, it is truly a sight (and sound) to behold. The falls themselves were a short 25min drive from the property and only a 5-10 minute walk from the carpark down to the base of the waterfall. I must confess though, the trail to the base is technically closed to the public, so proceed at your own risk. However, the beauty of the falls is still viewable from the viewing deck, which makes for a pretty awesome photo....
Hanging Rock
Hanging Rock is actually a former volcano that stands a pretty impressive 718m above sea level, so there are certainly some killer views from the top. The site itself took us about 40 mins to drive to from the property. The climb to the top is fairly easy and mostly paved....
Hanging Rock Market
After we walked to the top of Hanging Rock we were naturally famished, so when we noticed the local markets at the base of the mountain, we couldn't resist. So many fanatic local brands, producers and artists. I would highly recommend visiting if you are keen on markets, or if you are visiting Hanging Rock itself. Just keep in mind that the markets close at 2pm, so we only just made it in time to get some food after our hike....
