Forrest and Relaxation

Just a forty minute drive inland from Lorne, this spacious home in the centre of Forrest was our base for some awesome adventures around the Otway Ranges and Great Ocean Road. We walked Stevensons Falls, rafted Lake Elizabeth and witnessed kangaroos grazing at sunset, before retiring by the fire at the super-cosy Wrens Nest Cottage. We cruised home stopping for a vino at Blakes Estate Winery, a paddle in Lorne and a stroll with Ted along Anglesea beach. The perfect winter escape.

The Wrens Nest Cosy Cottage lived up to its name - being a homely (but spacious and modern) cottage where you'll feel instantly at ease. It's right in the heart of Forrest and has been styled perfectly with every detail considered to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The home has so much to offer with a fireplace ready to go, a bbq on the deck to fry up a feast and a spa bath to sink into after a day adventuring. It's pretty easy to get those cosy home-away-from-home vibes at The Wrens Nest.

Forrest General Store
We dropped in to this cute little general store a few times while in Forrest. It seems to be the same for everybody frequenting the town. The ladies working there were always warm and welcoming. Enjoy some great banter while you wait for your coffee or browse the local goods for sale. They also bake everything in-house. The apple-slice and brownie went down a treat!...
Off the track for Golden Hour
Just a short drive from the Wrens Nest Cottage we discovered a beautiful open plane where we could watch the sunset between the clouds. A group of kangaroos were grazing as we rocked up and let us check them out for a while, making it even more special. Exploring the farmland around Forrest was a nice way to switch off and get to know the landscape....
Blakes Estate Cellar Door
There were no leaves on the vines, but that didn't deter us from soaking up the fruits of Blakes Estate's labour. These guys made an extremely tasty Pinot Noir that went down a treat as we walked around the vineyard....
Dabble in some Paddle Boarding
Pop past Lorne on the way back for a swim or better-yet, a paddle board... aka a SUP. At HAH on the beach we hired stand up paddle boards for 2hrs for $35. Great deal, and so much fun! Pack the wetsuit during winter - the water was freezing....
Windy Walks
If you're coming home to Melbourne, Anglesea is a great spot to stretch the legs and soak up the wild winds on the beach before your drive back....
Reservoir Lookout
Probably the closest little adventure to Forrest township, this has excellent views from the dam wall over the reservoir. Take the path from the picnic area and explore the waterways....
Stevensons Falls Walk
A short walk takes you right to the torrent of the falls. A great spot to stretch the legs and up your insta game....
Kayak on Lake Elizabeth
15 minutes east of Forrest is Lake Elizabeth. Kayaking the lake was a great way to soak up the tranquil surroundings and explore the beautiful lake from a different perspective. We also walked around the lake to get an awesome view of the gumtrees from Platypus Beach....
