Dreamy Weekend in Berambing

We wanted to stay at the Dream Cabin as soon as we saw the listing, but we had no idea just how special this place really is...

After spending some time in charming Bilpin in the afternoon, we drove out to the Dream Cabin and what would be our sanctuary in the bush for the next two days.

The Cabin itself was such a relaxing, homely space, built from big blocks of stone, recycled timber, and so many hidden details.

We got a huge kick out of finding the “secret” passage to the upper level, seeing the roof glowing with fairy light constellations, the tiny golden dragon perched in the staircase, the small bird figurines in wall nooks, and the expansive views from the outdoor spa cabin.

We took our time to really soak up the earthy, grounded vibes - playing chess, soaking in the tub, playing cards, reading in the sun-soaked upper lounge, and even making homemade pasta and mulled wine for dinner!

One of my favourite things about the house was the top bedroom and its blanket of furs; illuminated by the glow of fairy lights at night and facing out to an endless sea of treetops and distant cliffs, glowing red then orange then gold as the sun would rise in the morning. We’d hear kookaburras, softly, just before the dawn. Then magpies warbling, and the songs of other birds I unfortunately can’t name.

We made a big breakfast feast, with homemade scones, pancakes, and fresh sourdough bread from Shelley’s Shop in Bilpin. Some friends came to join us during the day, and we hung out in the sun and walked to Bowen’s Creek. Fell in love with the energy of the place - ancient, yet familiar, with its giant trees and ferns and pastel coloured sandstone.

We definitely didn’t want to leave, but coming back to the Sydney grind, we definitely felt relaxed and recharged down to our core.

We cannot recommend this place enough! Thankyou, Lionel!

We followed a hand-drawn map in the Dream Cabin guide book to walk down to Bowen's Creek. Words can't adequately describe just how beautiful the property is with its reaching trees and lush carpets of ferns. This was definitely a highlight of our stay. There's a really good COO-EE spot along the way, too. (Note: it's a little bit steep downhill, so might not quite be suitable for less-abled bodies)....

We had a brilliant time with Tom, who came to the Dream Cabin and shared some of his knowledge about the bush and the wildlife (& creepy crawlies) you can find all around. We went for a guided walk around the property at night, listening out for the click of bats hunting by sonar on his radar, looking for gliding possums and learning to spot hidden spiders from way across the forest floor (their eyes shine like diamonds in torch light!). He was so passionate and enthusiastic - we absolutely loved it....

I spent the last morning solo on the property and treated myself to a massage. Gina came to the Dream Cabin and set up next to the fireplace (still a little chilly at this season to be outside, but definitely opt for that in the summer!). It was incredibly relaxing and she truly is a gem. Perfect sliding into the spa bath afterwards to prolong the bliss state....

We ducked into Bilpin Cider on the drive up from Sydney. It's the cutest property with a lush garden, fruit trees, and even the option to buy ready-made picnic hampers if you want to spread a blanket out on the grass to eat. It was a crisp day, so we opted for pumpkin soup and mulled cider. Definitely recommend checking this place out!...

So - Bilpin is famous for its apples, and even more specifically - apple pies! We looked up the three best-rated apple pie places en route (Pie in the Sky, Bilpin Fruit Bowl & the Pines Orchard) and bought pies from each of them to compare. Personally, we fell in love with Pie in the Sky (YUUUUM) for its juicy caramelised apple filling, the crystallised sugar on top and the puff pastry, but definitely see which tickles your fancy :) The cafes also sell fresh apple juice, apples, and a bunch of other local produce, so we loaded up....
