The Simple Life

A mini girls trip to the mountains, for some much needed rest & relaxation at the Quirky Coach House.

With so many animals to cozy up to on the property, we used the time at the house to drink wine with the ponies, paint by the fire and read in the reading nook in the loft upstairs. Any spare moment we had, we spent canoodling with any animal we could find- sitting with the ponies, collecting chicken eggs & cuddles, playing with the dogs, or scratching the horses.

Despite the gloomy weather, and the lure of reading all day, we took advantage of the proximity to all the beautiful nearby bush walks, and went on an adventure (recommended by our host) to the very edge of a mountain. The drive back was dotted with signs for so many cafes claiming to have the best apple pie... luckily we had the inside scoop and stopped about 10 minutes from the property to have the best apple pie + ice cream ever.

Back to the house to warm ourselves with fluffy blankets and read by fairy light, we adventured out to try the kayaks on the property, and even a cheeky swim in the lake.

Collect chicken eggs
A city slicker like me got awfully excited at being able to collect some chicken eggs. The chickens run all around the property (you can pet them too!) but lay their eggs in the egg house just 50m away!...
Hang out with the horses
The horses and ponies are just next to the house, so we hung out with them all the time. We sat with our wine by the ponies and patted them for an hour. They are a bit cheeky and kept trying to steal a taste!...
Bush walk around the house
The property is enormous, so we took a walk to explore all the beauty around us. The birds sang the entire time we were there, and the flowers had just started to come into bloom....
Best apple pie at Pie in the Sky
On the way back from our Walls Lookout hike, we stopped at our host's recommendation at Pie in the Sky. Not only was the apple pie (with vanilla ice cream!) so delicious, so was the take away steak pie.
Next time, I plan on doing an apple pie crawl and testing every one in the area (Bilpin is known for its apples!)

Kayak in mountain spring water
Just a 5-minute walk from the house, still on the property, are kayaks. So easy to drag one into the lake and jump in. The water is cold and fresh, and expect to see some ducks!...
Walls Lookout Hike
A 45 min drive from the property (but definitely worth it!), followed by an easy mostly flat 1-hour return hike to the edge of the mountain! Make sure to be responsible, and wear the appropriate shoes + bring water.
Be careful, the drop at the end is steep but so beautiful!
