Eco-Friendly Retreat in Bellbrae
The original owner of the property was an environmental scientist, and his foresight revegetated the land with 25 native and indigenous trees. Conscious about living sustainably, the current owners, Renee and Jason, have since planted over 200 trees and plants to restore the vegetation further, protect wildlife and minimise soil erosion. They also run the property on rainwater and solar power, recycle waste with worm farms and chemical-free practises, and heat the rooms with their home-grown firewood.
Between the warmth of our hosts, the privacy of the accommodation and the weak phone signal, we were completely immersed in the atmosphere of the land. We spent our time soaking up the rustling sounds of the trees when floating on the hammock and stayed dry by the fire as we watched the rain fall slowly. Eventually, we braced the cold to see what the incredible coast has to offer and numbed the chill with a few tasty local wines at the Bellbrae Winery. At night we enjoyed the charismatic barn included on the property, rummaging through Jason’s incredible vinyl collection, dancing and sampling more local wine....
