Nestled in the treetops

Staying at The Treepod provided us with the perfect chance to switch off from the commotion of everyday life, to reconnect with ourselves, each other and the natural world around us. Aptly named, it really feels as though you're nestled in the treetops alongside the birds. Rising with the sun to a chorus of birdsong each morning was a treat, and with views towards the Pacific Ocean from our pillows, we didn't want to leave our bed!

3kms up a winding dirt track that is only accessible via 4WD, our host Robin welcomed us at the bottom of the track with a pick-up and provided a rustic Australian driving experience through the bush.

It was a bumpy ride up the steep incline, scrambling to hold onto our guitar and valuables with a few chuckles and jokes and hats bouncing on our heads. Robin shared his knowledge about the area and pointed out the native flora and fauna.

Greeted on the property by Bono and Occy, the resident canine showed us to our front door with tails wagging.

Perched on the side of a mountain range amongst the trees, The Treepod overlooks a valley that houses its own private waterfall and swimming hole. Completely off-grid and powered by solar, it is entirely self-sufficient.

Fully immersed in nature, even the shower was outdoors, and we were delighted that it rained during our stay, as it gave us the chance to indulge the experience fully.

Hidden in a bamboo grove down a quiet lane in Mullumbimby we visited a local hot-spot Kiva Spa, beating the crowds for an early sweat in the yurt styled wood-heated sauna. We put our feet up and had a relaxing soak in one of the four jet-streamed spa pools. The steam room has a high domed roof and marbled walls, creating a misty experience, and there is even a cold plunge pool that completely invigorates the senses after being in the heat.
Kiva Spa transported us to a place of stillness and invited us to reconnect with ourselves. We both left feeling recalibrated, the perfect start to our retreat deep into the hills of The Inner Pocket.

A path from our back doorstep leads the way deep down into the valley below and like pirates on the hunt for treasure, we followed a detailed map to find a secluded waterfall on the property.
We packed a picnic lunch and even collected a few Mangoes on the way from a tree we passed in the meadow.
Fresh water from recent rainfall was a delight after the trek through the bush, and we were quick to cool off in the outdoor shower upon our return to the Treepod.

Perfect surf conditions saw us up at dawn to welcome the new day from the water at New Brighton. A salty start always sets us up for a great day, and the coastal surf in this area are world-renowned....

Every Friday from 7 am - 11 am the Farmers Markets are held at the Mullumbimby Showgrounds rain, hail or shine.
An array of spicy aromas lead our noses through the village of food stalls and local art & crafts.
A fantastic way to experience the community spirit, the atmosphere is light and fun with local buskers setting the vibe.

With our sights set on Mullumbimby, we stopped in to visit Joah at The Paddock Project for a hot brew and a wander around the veggie patch. Sipping our coffee under Mount Chincogan, we could already feel the stresses of modern-day society melting away behind us knowing we were settling into a slower pace for the weekend....

Walking past the Pink Lotus had our noses swiftly turning us around with our belly's in tow. We couldn't bear to walk by without eating here!
Created with love, this Vietnamese eatery has staple recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation using local ingredients. We enjoyed the must-have dishes San Choy Bau and Dumplings followed by a shared Summer Curry (vegan & vegetarian options available)
