Retreat to Skenes Creek

There’s something that you realise very abruptly after spending only five minutes walking in through the door to the Skenes Creek Beach House - that they’ve literally thought of everything.

From the warm welcome on their note, to realising they had a custom spotify playlist for their beach house vibe, to seeing the custom made furniture and every little accent you would need to house two to ten people in utter comfort. (including a dedicated games room, which I must shoutout had the best selection of super Nintendo games and foosball on offer).

Within minutes of arriving, we felt so at home by a wood fire in the lounge planning how best to tackle our next few days.

We were inspired the next morning, waking to nothing but the sounds of crashing waves and birdsong. We decided to start the adventures out slow heading to the local Apollo Bay markets to pick up fresh produce, and try some of the jams and goods on offer from the locals, determined to make use of the large kitchen at the beach house later that day.

From there we went hunting in town to hire some stand-up paddleboards for the day's activity - even though choppy winds and waves should have deterred us. But thankfully with the sage advice of our rental man he directed us to a little bay, we could paddle in peace away from the main beaches, a stroke of luck and kindness we were grateful for.

After hours of soaking up the beautiful beaches, the area had to offer it was back home to rinse off the saltwater in the outdoor tub, joined by a flock of cockatoos watching on from the upstairs verandah, almost too picturesque to believe.

Later that night it was boardgames around the lounge room coffee table and putting their cocktail making utensils and bar to good use.

Just when we thought there wasn’t anything else that could bed packed into this home to wow us, the next morning we broke out the supplied yoga mats, and a guided yoga youtube video to kickstart the day.

With so much to keep us entertained at the accommodation, it was almost a sad parting to go tackle our bigger adventures. Skenes Creek is situated so close to some of the best national park for exploring on the Great Ocean road. We were able to spend the day hiking to Hopetoun Falls and running around the Redwood Forrest.

Our final night at the beach house put on a dazzling sunset - sealing the trip as a combination of relaxed little luxuries and getting into nature.
