To The Hills

Merrijig, Victoria
Thanks OTTWAY for supporting this story.
Having arrived in complete darkness with only the stars and a smouldering fireplace for light, we had no idea of the absolute scenes we’d be treated to in the morning. Waking up at Blue Gum Ridge was an incredible experience. From our bedroom window we could see the farm’s rolling hills, giving way to the snowy mountains of Mt Buller. The two bedroom rustic retreat was set in the most beautiful location that is every photographer’s dream. The perfect getaway from the city, our cottage was an ideal base for all the outdoor activities Merrijig had to offer. Luckily for us the weather turned it on and we were away!...

Exploring the farm
Waking up for sunrise meant a coffee on the jetty overlooking a glass-like lake. The cows were playing with the new-born calves, the kookaburras were cackling and we were buzzing....
Four-wheel-driving is definitely a must. We tackled the trails in a Jeep Wrangler and after almost becoming bogged we made it to Tomahawk Hut. The nerves were worth it for the unreal solitude at this refuge hut in the bush....
Delatite Winery
We were so lucky to chance upon the amazing Delatite Winery. The staff were so friendly, the pizzas were tasty and the red wine was second to none. Being there with Spanish mates meant a post-lunch siesta was on the cards....
Gough's Bay
Definitely a great place to skim a rock or two, Gough’s Bay was the perfect spot for a short hike. A cruisey walk that’s easy on the eyes, this was a great stop-off after fair drive exploring Merrijig....
