Oasis in the Mountains
Adventure in Pomonal, Grampians, VIC, AU
Amongst hundreds of acres of farmland at the base of the Grampians, we arrived at The Oasis, a secluded safari campsite with incredible views of the mountains.
The camp has its own private creek with a creekside lounge where we listened to the Kookaburras as the sun set over the mountains in front of us. We watched the Kangaroos hop past while drinking local wine in the outdoor kitchen. After dark, we lay down in the huge tent and listened to the wind blowing in the comfort of our cozy bed.
In the morning we woke up at sunrise and went for a walk on the farm. We explored the wetlands amongst the fields and watched the chickens wake up and jump out of their caravan home one by one. After making a barbecue breakfast and showering amongst nature in the outdoor shower we headed out to explore the local area and go for a swim at Lake Fyans which is only a ten-minute drive away. In the mountains, we hiked down through the waterfalls for a swim in the lagoon at Fish Falls.
We spent the afternoon reading by the creek before walking down to the Wild Misty Mountain Hotel, a new environmentally conscious restaurant on the farm and were cooked South American barbecue from local farm produce and fed fresh juice with home-infused spirits.
We were so sad to leave the next morning but we stopped into the restaurant for some coffee and said goodbye to the alpacas before heading off home....
