Thompson's Hut - Snowy Mountains Cabin (est 1900's)
Cabin in Jindabyne, Snowy Mountains, NSW, AU

Experience the uniqueness of Thompson's Hut. Built in the early 1900's as a shelter for cattlemen on the Snowy Plains caring for their livestock during unpredictable mountain weather.
The hut was relocated to our property several years ago, and we have undertaken a sensitive restoration process to retain the essence of the hut while adding a few modern comforts.
Thompson's Hut is a cozy cabin with original and updated features warmed by a wood heater. Two comfortable vintage chairs encircle the fireplace for great story telling and enough space for other evening activities.
Snuggle up in the Queen sized bed with beautifully soft Cultiver linen sheets, or relax with a good book on the deck or by the window warmed with morning sun.

Additional Information
While there are no internal doors within hut, we have installed a privacy curtain between the kitchen area and bathroom. We have a step-in bath where you can soak time away, perhaps while enjoying a glass of wine.
We appreciate you using water wisely.
Thompson's Hut is supplied with Hunter Lab products for hand and body. Cultiver and L&M is our bed linen of choice.
We have a functional and well equipped kitchen, however, we do not have an oven or microwave in Thompson's Hut. We have a portable induction cooktop and electric frypan. Aside from this, you are also welcome to try slow cooking your meals on the wood heater using the cast-iron cookware... though please keep the pots off the fireplace when not in use and perhaps don't leave your cooking unattended. :)
We believe in drinking good wine and whisky with great friends from beautiful glassware and trust you will enjoy this too.
We stock a basic pantry, which includes:
- Ground Coffee Beans from Snowy Mountains Coffee
- BlackTea from T2
- Hot Chocolate & Marshmallows from Grounded Pleasure
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper.
We recommend you pop into Woolworths or the grocer in Jindabyne for your supplies and milk if you take it. Jindabyne is less than 6km down the road and has many restaurants, pubs and take-away options.
***We do not have a microwave at Thompson's Hut***
The hut has a VERY efficient wood fire to provide our guests with a warm and a cozy atmosphere with additional electric heating if you feel the need.
You will arrive to find a fire already set for your first night and supplies for subsequent nights: a lighter, kindling and wood.
It gets cold in the valley in the deep of winter. We have provided extra blankets throughout the hut, though please be sure to pack enough warm clothing if you are planning to stay through the cooler months.
There is limited phone access but have provided WIFI for our guests.
We do not have a television in Thompson's Hut.
You are welcome to explore the 55 acre property at your own risk. We only ask that you shut gates, do not touch farm equipment or enter the shearing shed, and exercise caution at all times, especially around animals, barbed wire fences and on the uneven ground.
Please note, Thompson's Hut is not suitable for pets due to the delicate nature of its furnishings and the possible disturbance to livestock on the farm.
The step-in claw-foot bath means this listing might not suit those who have mobility issues.
We wish for Thompson's hut to be as sustainable as possible. We use Ecoyo and Koala Eco products for cleaning and have installed a compostable toilet. Full instructions will be provided within our house manual and at time of booking. Please be advised that this toilet is VERY clean and does not smell.
It is essential for our guests to have travel insurance. It is possible - though rare - during the winter months that roads are closed temporarily due to snow or ice can disrupt travel plans. As this is a travel issue outs our control rather than an issue with our listing, we don't issue refunds or extend stays due to usually being fully booked and recommend you contact your insurer to assist with any costs associated with disrupted travel arrangements.
Photography shoots can be arranged by mutual agreement and for a location fee.

What a wonderful little hideaway, Thompson's Hut is just fantastic!
Our stay was during summer as we went down to attend the Jindabyne Rodeo, we also took our ocean skis and paddled on the lake whic...h was pure magic. The description on Riparide doesn't talk about the kitchen facility, the cabin has a well appointed kitchen which makes it super easy to whip up a meal, sit on the deck and take in all the beautiful surroundings.
We will be back!

A cosy Hut in peaceful surroundings. Fresh air, farm animals, star lit night sky, lakes, mountains, reconnecting with nature at the door step. The hut has “off grid” conditions to be mindful of with a splash of luxury items. We’ve had a lovely and relaxing stay.

Hi there! We are a family of seven and for as long as we can remember we have loved the Snowy Mountains region. During the winter we ski and enjoy the mountains in all their wild and snowy glory but when the summer comes we love to hike and mountain bike the trails in the region. The best part of any day is being able to come back to our warm home, enjoying a meal together and reminiscing the highlights of the day with a warm chai or hot chocolate... or in the summer, a crisp beer!

Flicking Lures Around Lake Jindabyne
The weather had turned pretty sour one afternoon. So, while there wasn't too much wind affecting the lake surface, we took up an opportunity to flick a few hardbody and surface lures on very light gear around some structure and snags on dusk.

Banjo Paterson Inn In Jindabyne
This is the go-to pub in town, with great beers on tap and all the usual pub fare. The front deck outlook is excellent too - looking right over Lake Jindabyne. Make sure you get there for a cold one at sunset after exploring the region!

Birchwood Cafe Jindabyne
A cafe to rival any fancy city cafes! Birchwood is an excellent cafe off the main drag in Jindy that offers AMAZING coffee, and second-to-none breakfasts with great veggie options.
Highly recommend the avo on sourdough which has this exquisite coconut sambal that POPS!

Sushi At Takayama
Pull up a chair at the bar at Takayama. Our new pal Stefan will take care of you. He owns the only sushi joint in Jindabyne, inspired by his time working abroad in Japan. We feasted on some fresh Tassie salmon sashimi and a little Karatamba saki. It was delicious, highly recommend!
Mountain Biking At Hatchery Bay
A great trail for all skill levels, winding its way around the lake to Hatchery Bay. Passes through cattle grazing paddocks, so keep an eye out.
Scenic Drive Through Alpine Vistas
The drive through Kosciuszko national park offer you an amazing and rare sight to behold. It was misty yet moody. Could imagine how beautiful and jaw-dropping the view would be on a clear day.
