Great location just a short distance from the town and sights with a quiet porch off the bedroom. Jilea was very warm and friendly.

Chinoiserie was like stepping into another realm, filled with a chorus of colour. Jilea was a wonderful and welcoming host, greeting us on arrival and making us at home. The space itself is perfect fo...r a short stay - especially a weekend getaway to explore the mountains. It’s a unique little escape that lingers with you long after you leave.

Okay so ...this is a review I didn't really want to leave but you asked ... Dusty and lots of cobwebs, mould on the ceiling and really hard to keep warm. We were met by the owner trying to program the... heating at 20 degrees in spurts which she controls with an app and I had to ask for it to be raised. The thin curtains don't shut out the light and the possums running across the roof all night didn't help. The milk was on the turn and there was no normal Tea ... when you pay for accommodation you don't expect to have the heating controlled and the sensor light going off all night. I also question the $50 Cleaning fee as it was not apparent that there was anyone cleaning it when we entered and the instructions from the owner was anything you use is to be washed thoroughly and left next to the door for her and the $50 plus fee for service from the Riparide company is exorbitant considering they also charge the owner. All in all a sad laugh a minute. Katoomba seems to have suffered from the pandemic and lots of places are closed and everything appears rundown.

HOST RESPONSE:

Thank you for your review Gary, and I am sorry my place did not live up to your expectations. I would however, like to address some of your criticisms and concerns. Yes, when you arrived, I was fixing a problem with the wifi connection to the bedroom heater which is programmed to provide continuous heating for the duration of your stay. If it was too cold for you, you have the option of turning it up - to 30 degrees in fact - as is the case with the reverse cycle air conditioning in the lounge room (which is not controlled by an app). Just because it is a wifi heater does not mean you cannot control or override it to provide for your own comfort level. There was no need for you to ask me to turn it up from the app. Likewise with the sensor light which is provided for your protection as you are coming or going after dark. If you didn't want it on it's a simple matter to switch it off at the wall! Due to Covid, I do ask my guests to rinse anything they have used and leave it for me to put in the dishwasher. Most guests do not find this an onerous request and are happy to oblige. I provide a variety of teas and coffee. Teas include both English Breakfast and Darjeeling which I believe is what you would call "normal" tea, alongside a selection of herbal, green and chai teas. I also leave a choice of milks (in separate jugs) to accommodate my vegan guests - perhaps you tried one of these instead of the fresh cow's milk provided. In response to your claim that the apartment was not clean, my cleaner and I thoroughly inspected it after you left and found no evidence of dust or mould. However we did find a stray cobweb, for which I apologise and a number of food stains left by you on the heated throw and sofa. These of course have since been professionally cleaned. I have no control over possums on the roof, shops closing in Katoomba or Riparide's fees, which all appeared to combine to compound your disappointment. And, finally to your concern that there was no cleaner there on your arrival - you claim this is evidence that no cleaning takes place and therefore a cleaning fee is not justified. My cleaner is paid to have the apartment cleaned BEFORE you arrive not to be there during your stay. Thank you again for your feedback and I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay nor the extended check in and check out times you expected and were given.

Bakes Brews And Black Cockatoos

Start your morning at Black Cockatoo Bakery, where every pastry is made with love and you can tell with each bite. This isn’t just a place to grab bread; it’s a local favourite and a real part of the community. The line of regulars, young and old, stretched almost out the door - a lively contrast to the quiet street outside. Inside, it’s warm and welcoming, filled with the smell of fresh bakes and good coffee. We treated ourselves to some incredible pastries and coffee that hit just right. Black Cockatoo isn’t just a stop - it’s how you start the day right on your adventure.
