We had a quiet winter stay at Hideaway Cottage. It was really peaceful and a short stroll to walk to the beach and see the winter waves. We had a little trouble with the woodheater as it was short on ...kindling so quite hard to get going after coming back from a day out. The zebra couch was super comfy as was the bed. Property is on tank water so we brought bottled water for drinking as unsure of quality but ok yo use otherwise.
The Woodside pub has lovely food but you have to drive there. Only shop in Woodside Beach is caravan kiosk which has limited hrs in winter.
The waterfall in Agnes is well worth the trip, driving in thru the green hills is really strange and its a shock to see the waterfall in there.
We walked the 900m jetty at Port Welshpool and saw seals swimming, the water was gorgeously clear. Lunch at the Rusty Gurnard pub was amazing especially the clam chowder.
Local towns we enjoyed along the way were Yarram, Meeniyan, Foster & Leongatha.
Our only real issue with our stay was the kitchen. The crockery, pots, pans, cups, trays and cutlery were grubby and we had to wash it before using, and the kitchen cupboards were sticky inside and out. The pool table area was filthy and the cues etc were chucked on the floor which desperately needed to be swept so we didn’t end up using this area unfortunately.
We can see that for a summer beach holiday with kids this place would be great, but for us as a child free weekend it wasn’t to the standard expected.

Hi, My name is Michelle and I'm a married mother of 5 Kids. I love the beach and watching my kids swim and surf. I'm also an active member of the Woodside Beach Life Saving Club, 4 of my kids are life savers and 1 is still a nipper. When we travel, I enjoy accommodation that is clean and safe.

All About Vino

A nice, local winery with a wide variety of wines. The Cab Sauv was our go-to, as per usual and it was nice!

Fishing

The huge snapper that arrive every spring remain a major attraction, but they are just one part of the piscatorial equation. Other fish include excellent King George whiting, salmon, bream, snook, couta, trevally, mullet, cod and garfish. 30 minute drive away

The Albert and Tarra rivers flow into the bay area on either side of Port Albert and both provide reasonable fishing for brown trout in the upper reaches as well as estuary perch nearer the entrance.

Fish And Chips To Die For

A cute little coastal town where you'll find a hidden gem (all the locals know the place) called Port Albert Wharf Fish & Chips where they serve super fresh fish and chippies! 100% recommended!

Corrigan Suspension Bridge

Walk to the remarkable Corrigan Suspension Bridge, which reaches through the rainforest canopy, offering stunning views of the lush fern gully below. Follow the signs from the Visitor Centre Carpark. (1.2 km, 25 min one way)

Tarra Bulga National Park

We were told by a local that the drive to Tarra Bulga National Park was a sight in itself…and they were not lying. The drive is about 30 minutes from Callignee and was probably one of the highlights. Be sure to go via Traralgon Balook Rd, as the landscapes are simply incredible. Pine trees line the way and are complemented by rolling valleys and mountains as far as the eye can see. We stopped almost every 5 minutes to take some photos and soak in the fresh air and views.
