Stay in the iconic Ridge Castle, one of the Ridge's most photographed mining camps. You will have the entire castle to yourselves, it is located on an active mining field about 2kms from town.
See extensive views from your turret. Marvel at the amazing stonework. Enjoy the quirky features including the use of car doors for windows.
Though you will feel like Royalty, remember this is a genuine mining camp on a Ridge so don't expect five star accommodation. It's hot in summer and cold in winter.
The Ridge Castle is not just a quirky structure. It was for decades home to local miners. As with most camps in Lightning Ridge, the Castle features rustic living.

Additional Information
There is an internal basic bathroom with hot water for the shower or bath. The kitchen has a microwave, fridge and enough kitchenware to cook up a small banquet.
The Castle is on solar power and though it is not strong enough to run the split system air-conditioner, there are portable water coolers you can use throughout the day.
Warm clothes will be needed inside during winter and there is an open fire in the Palace Grounds for starry fireside evenings. We’ll provide the firewood.
There are 4 bedrooms. One features a Queen bed (of course!) whilst the others have singles. We provide all linen and towels.
The open lounge area is spacious and comfortable. A large flat-screen TV is situated in a massive stone fireplace. A Moran leather lounge to relax into.
Did we mention the turret? Perfect for watching one of the classic Ridge Sunsets. Or stunning views of the Western Plains. Or just for waving to the peasants as they drive past taking photos of your kingdom!
Staying in the Castle is an experience you won't forget. The perfect base to explore the mining fields of Lightning Ridge. The famous Artesian Bore Baths are a short drive or long stroll away.
As with most Castles worldwide, the Ridge Castle is mostly closed to the public. It is on rare occasions we open it up for guests to experience what would be the most unique accommodation experience you will have.
Apart from being able to use the Castle itself, you are welcome to enjoy the Palace Grounds. Though there is a small swimming pool, it is currently set aside for frogs and a few goldfish only.
There is a working mine on site which you cannot go down. Please be safe as you explore.
There are wood-fired stoves and water systems in the Castle, but these cannot be used. Just admired.
You will be greeted and welcomed at the Castle by our local concierge and they are available by phone should you need anything.
The Ridge Castle is located on Simms Hill. The highest point of Lightning Ridge. The views are excellent. The famous artesian bore baths are less than 2km away. They are free and a must-do.
To access the Ridge Castle, it is approximately 2km from town and there is approximately 1km of rocky dirt road. Take care driving in low cars, it is all-weather, so driveable when raining. Even our Royal Carriage has never been bogged.
The Ridge Castle is surrounded by mining claims. Though shafts are always meant to be covered, we do ask you to take particular care if wandering about. Other attractions nearby include Amigo's Castle, The Black Queen and The Observatory. We can point out a few other local attractions as well. There are many.
You will need a vehicle in Lightning Ridge. There are no buses or taxis. There is a courtesy bus from the local Bowling Club.
This is a rustic mining camp. This is why you are coming to experience life like the locals. It is not the Hilton so Paris would be sad.
Winter nights in the Ridge can get cold. There is no internal heating so please bring warm clothes. Our solar stored energy is not strong enough to run the heating system without the generator.
You can have an open campfire in one of the Palace Courtyards though. Or perhaps the turret even. We suggest warm clothes for inside and outside.
There is an active mine on site. We currently call it a dirt mine. One day we hope to call it an Opal mine.
Though the Castle could accommodate an invading army, we allow a maximum of 7 guests. Children welcome but must always have adult supervision on site.
The wood-fired stoves and water systems not to be used.
The fireplace is for the TV only. Please no fires. It will melt our TV!
Your visitors are welcome to visit but please advise us first.

I have lived in Lightning Ridge, outback NSW, for the past 20 years and have emerged several successful award winning businesses in that time!
I am passionate about supporting rural women and communities to thrive, heal and evolve.
We have a community restaurant and event venue, permaculture garden and emerging syntropic food forrest on site at THE Hungry Spirit and I run a global tech company from my office here too. I am married to Michael, who is an opal miner and has a passion for fossils. We have two adult children and 3 grandchildren.
I love to travel and adventure.
My vision for my life is to bloom where I am and support other people to do the same.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
May you bloom where you are, Rebel xxx
