As we stepped foot on the sun-soaked concrete floor inlaid with pāua shells and foraged beachy treasures, we felt an air of cosy, coastal indulgence and the sweeping seaside views from the re-claimed ...windows were truly magical.
Our mornings were filled with sipping tea and listening to the waves lapping on the shoreline as we lay beneath the weathered beams. We ate breakfast in the sun-drenched dining nook with the ocean breeze flowing through the sliding windows (which remained open all day long). We lay on the grass and lounged in the sun reading a book and took the short stroll down to the beach for a sunset swim. In the evenings we nestled in around the firepit with a tipple or two.
The hosts, David, Nuala, and Seth have the most infectiously warm and welcoming nature and their fascinating stories of the history of Ahu Ahu Beach Villas and sheer love for the land made our stay truly memorable. We look forward to returning to this slice of New Zealand paradise in the very near future.

A nurse in her previous life, Nuala puts her organisational skills and love for people to good use in running Ahu Ahu Beach Villas and Willie's House. She is a foodie, and happiest with a latte or wine in the company of family or friends. For a number of years Nuala and husband, David, worked their land alongside a wholefood business they established in New Plymouth, and these things converge in the glorious food they provide for events – made with thought and passion. David and Nuala love living in Ahu Ahu Rd – a great place to fish, surf, garden, beach comb, watch sunsets and enjoy life raising their three now-grown children. They created Ahu Ahu Beach Villas as a spontaneous extension of the enjoyment they gained from meeting visitors on the beach and inviting them into their home and lives. Willie's House was David's dad's much-loved home, and David and Nuala now manage it on behalf of Willie's family. David and Nuala add that extra something to every guest’s stay – whether it’s the secret of the best sunset spot on the coast, a freshly caught fish to share, or a connection over a chat and a laugh. Come as strangers, leave as friends!
