This cosy, remodelled self-contained studio is located in the centre of Okato village, one of Taranaki’s most historic and creative areas. Only 20 minutes from New Plymouth but far enough to enjoy village life. Explore the mountain or coastal scenic areas with this studio as your base.
Fun and stylish this unique space is perfect for those looking to stay somewhere a bit different.
We are pet friendly (two well-behaved pets maximum). A pet cleaning fee ($30 per stay) applies. As Riparide currently does not have the function to include the pet cleaning fee at the time of booking, this will be added in the Special Offer function during the booking process.

Built in 1961, your studio apartment started life as a Pharmacy. Along the years it has been an Art Gallery and Photographic Studio. We have renovated it with that in mind - providing a creative retreat with a contemporary loft-style feel. Cook in the retro kitchenette and dine on the deck surrounded by mature trees.
After a cold surf, enjoy a hot soak in the bath on the enclosed bathing deck.
The unique fittings and design features enable the studio to 'pack down' and transform from a cosy living space to a pop-up gallery or shop. All ideas welcome!

We can recommend some wonderful walks and fishing spots on Hangatahua (Stony) River and the beautiful coastline, as well as local cafes for delicious pies and pastries as well as freshly brewed coffee, both just across the street. Ōkato’s fish and chip shop won New Zealand’s prize in 2019 for the Best Chips in NZ! And…we believe our local Four Square is the best in New Zealand (for its size!)

Private parking for one small/medium car - off the street. If you have a larger vehicle we recommend you park on the street (free parking).

Generally, we are close by at weekends, most evenings, and contactable by phone otherwise.

Midway between beautiful Ōākura (beach/village) and iconic Opunake town, Okato is a short drive from Mount Taranaki trails and some of New Zealand’s best surf beaches. Great local cafes and fish & chip shop.

Infrequent bus service into New Plymouth. Many great walking trails along Hangatahua (Stony) River and the beautiful Taranaki coastline. Recommendations available on arrival.

Had a lovely relaxing time at 65on45. The weather was windy and wet but the studio was lovely and warm. The outside bath is heaven with a glass of wine and some music.

Lovely little retro studio on the surf highway to New Plymouth. Great fish and chips shop beside studio and some great quirky coffee spots in the town. Not far from New Plymouth and lots of walks and ...beaches close by. We had a wet weekend but found the studio very cosy and warm. The record player and bath were highlights. We also loved we could bring our dog.

Stony River Stroll

Follow the road signs for Stony River where you will be met by the riverbank, there are many beautiful spots along the river for a picnic or even a swim if the weather permits. The river is lined with native foliage and wildflowers, if you're lucky enough you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Taranaki towering over the river.
