Tea Tree Hill Beach Shack

Beach house in Venus Bay, Gippsland, VIC

Pet-friendly
Classic, 1963 Beach shack, furnished with a designer eye. This space is a true haven, a true escape. Elevated at the highest point on the hill, a 450m walk to Beach 5, Tea Tree Hill is the perfect city detox. A simple combination of light filled, private & social spaces, inside and out.

Venus Bay remains the quintessential beach escape. There is so much of 'nothing' to enjoy. Bordered by the inlet on one side, and wild Bass Strait on the other, you are guaranteed wonderful coastal landscapes. Head down the road to Walkerville - facing the opposing direction, and with fantastic views of the prom, it's a must. Explore the 'Magic Beach' which is ideal for fishing and stand up paddle.

The inlet which you can access from the boat ramp of the second estate, or any of the parking area's along Tarwin river, is a haven for great fishing, bird watching, or straight out relaxing.

Wilsons Promontory is just over an hour away. This is a great day trip, pack some lunch and head off on one of the many hikes. Climb Mount Oberon for magnificent views across the National Park. Or head through the bush to Tidal Overlook for views looking back at Norman Bay before heading to Squeaky Beach to check out the waves and pristine beach.

SHACK DETAILS

Bedroom 1 - 1 queen bed
Bedroom 2 - 1 double bed
Common spaces - 1 single bed

In an attempt to bring a little more romance, in December 2016 I added an exclusive outdoor bathroom featuring custom imported finishes, and beautiful Cocoon Eco Fire. All yours to indulge in and enjoy.

The art is original, and many furniture pieces have been commissioned by local artisan's - the side and coffee tables, the dining room centrepiece and the handles all locally produced.

Vintage European furniture by Cappellini and Erkhol, and accessories from travels all over the world have been used to finish the space. A Bang & Olufsen sound system drives the mood. Candles, essential oils, and unique lighting ensure the space can be tailored to whatever mood you're in.

The television is connected to a DVD player and XBOX. We have not connected the antenna - you're at the beach, get out there. Children's toys, drawing equipment & board games sit awaiting a rainy day, as do a diverse range of cook books, cooking equipment & design magazines.

Complimentary Whisky and Port await your call for a night cap, and fresh coffee by St Ali will get you up in the morning. NOTE the kitchen does NOT feature an OVEN - I use the bbq or fire pit to roast.

PLEASE NOTE
If possible, sleep with the window open, the sound the ocean is the best.
Pets are welcome - outside only please, there is an undercover deck to ensure they stay warm.
Sheets and towels are not included, though can be arranged for a minimal fee.
Smoking is not permitted inside the house.

Preferred method of transport to beach and village is bicycle or foot. Bicycles are available to get you around during your stay.

No 4 Beach

Discovered by Natalie
Only a short five minute drive from our accommodation, we set ourselves down on the beach in Venus Bay to watch the sun go down and see the sky colour itself in pastels....

The Big Drift

Discovered by Natalie
Located at the entrance of Wilsons Promontory, The Big Drift offers landscapes that are like nothing else in Victoria. With no one else in sight, we took in the beautiful scenery around us and watched the sun go down on the highest sand dune we could find....

Koonwarra Store

Discovered by Natalie
A cute cafe and lunch spot we found on the way home that served the yummiest lunch and had the loveliest outdoor area. This is a must visit to break up the journey back to Melbourne!...

Walkerville Coastal Trail

Approximately 100 metres beyond the end of the boat ramp marks the beginning of a walking trail up the cliff that separates the two Walkerville settlements. This trail leads you through spectacular forests and little creeks stained brown by the tea tree (melaleuca) plants....

Swimming

Take a refreshing dip in some of the finest swimming beaches in Victoria. In the warmer months popular ocean beaches like Cape Paterson, Inverloch, Venus Bay, Sandy Point and Norman Bay are the perfect swimming spots for families....

Surfing

Venus Bay is a very open, exposed bay, facing into the south-west winds and waves. The beach is nearly 24 km long and has public access only toward the northern end at the Venus Bay settlement. Best with a low to moderate swell and north to north-east winds, however the shape depends on the bar configuration.

Walkerville
Walkerville has a semi-exposed beach break with inconsistent surf. Northwest winds provide optimum conditions. Mixed ground and wind swells with best conditions generated from the southeast. Beware of rips conditions can be hazardous.

Fishing

The Tarwin River is among the more exalted of Victoria’s estuary systems with a solid reputation for producing estuary perch. It flows into Anderson Inlet. This is the only Victorian water where estuary perch are the dominant and most sought-after species. You would think it was a sure bet for black bream, but very few are caught compared to other estuaries where bream are the dominant species....

The Magic Walkerville Beach

Extremely secluded, Walkerville South is only accessible by lonely gravel roads and the lack of people ensures that facilities are at a bare minimum. The gravel road that leads to Walkerville South ends with a similar boat ramp to that of its northern sister settlement, and a sheltered bay frequented in the summer by families swimming and fishing in the quiet pristine waters.

Walkerville North provides beautiful views across Waratah Bay to nearby Wilsons Promontory, and at low tide provides access to spectacular rock pools.

I'm an avid traveller with a long bucket list! I love a good adventure, and dream of far flung places... A night in a tent is as memorable to me as a five star hotel...I believe to truly experience a new environment, you need to be fully immersed in it - that's led to some interesting experiences, sleeping on the deck of a yacht, under tarps in the Tasmanian wilderness, & hanging off a cliff face in Nepal... That is the essence of travel to me - immersive experience. I am a cyclist, a skier, an architectural enthusiast and a keen photographer. I escape the city every week for a new experience.

We really loved our stay here, so cozy and inviting from the moment you step in! Bed was lovely and soft with beautiful linen. The outdoor bath is so good, and even poor weather didn’t put a dampener on it. Would certainly stay again....

Me and my partner enjoyed a relaxing few days at this property at the start of September, it’s a lovely and homely house with the beach at the doorstep! We enjoyed lovely weather and made our way to Wilson’s prom for a morning hike before coming home and cooking dinner and relaxing with a game of scrabble and a soak in the lovely outdoor bath! Will definitely return!...
