Rustic Caravan in the Valley

Xanthe is a rustic, restored 1976 caravan nestled in beautiful Kangaroo Valley, just minutes from the village and only a two-hour drive from Sydney. We arrived at the van in the dark, though it was nicely lit up beneath the stars with a fresh fire pit ready to go. We cosied up next to the fire roasting marshmallows and unwinding from the day. The van was surrounded by these beautiful tall gum trees and serene wildlife. I must say, the name of the valley did not disappoint as there were ample kangaroos surrounding the area. In the morning, we woke to a beautiful mist hovering over the land, which was not only occupied by kangaroos, but also sheep, kookaburras and galahs.

The outdoor spa included a vintage bath and much-needed hot shower after a crisp night. Both were facing the forest, offering the most tranquil space to unwind and disconnect. During the day, we explored the town shops and cafes, then had a swim and walk along the river. Kangaroo Valley really is a beautiful place – we only wished we had more time.

We started our morning by cruising through the village, which offered a few boutique shops, cafes and a rad bakery. First off, The General Cafe had an amazing brunch and great coffee – would highly recommend this place. Secondly, the bakery also had the most delicious pies. On our last day, we treated ourselves at the Friendly Inn for a couple of schooners and lunch. This place had a lot of character, both inside and out, not to mention a nice outdoor beer garden....

After walking through the village in the morning, we decided to cross over the historic Hampton Bridge, which led us to the Pioneer Village Museum. The museum provided a great historical tour of Kangaroo Valley, and the surrounding creek also offered a short bushwalking track. After the tour, we hopped into our swimmers and jumped in the water just below the iconic bridge....

We decided to take a short drive through the valley stopping in at various beautiful farmlands. We stopped at one that was a particularly special treat as it was home to one of my favourite cows, the Scottish Highlander bull. These were stunning to see up close....
