Working from Walkerville
Adventure in Walkerville North, Gippsland, VIC, AU
In the thick of Walkerville’s native coastline, I found the ideal getaway not too far from Melbourne. It was a great environment for me to not only get on top of some work I'd been putting off, but also give me some well-deserved rest and recovery time.
The Jacky Winter Waters house is buried in the trees, a two-minute walk from the water, with stunning panoramic views of Wilsons Prom. It's a unique and premium space that allowed me to take a deep breath and unwind while simultaneously inspiring my creative side. The quality and cleverness of simplicity put plenty of enjoyment into 'working from home' before my mate, Guy, joined me for a long overdue catch up. Given the thought that has been put into every detail of this hideaway, I didn't have to think of a thing as I drifted off into a daily meditation to the sound of crashing waves and chirping birds.
Enjoying the outdoor fireplace at night was a great way to catch up with Guy, distracted by nothing but the stars and the smell of jaffles on the fire. Coffee and sun warmed the body after a morning dip before we set out to check out South Gippsland. Joined by a friendly local and fellow Land-Rover-lover Kelsy, we explored the beach, checked out a historic lighthouse and enjoyed fish and chips at the Fish Creek Hotel.
The Jacky Winter Waters house was perfectly suited to some solo time, which I needed more than I thought, while being equally perfect for a catch up with a close mate or, I imagine, a significant other.

Things We Did
- Lookout
- Café
- Beach
Cape Liptrap Lighthouse has great views looking out over the ocean. There's an easy dirt road down to the location, and a super short walk to the lighthouse, so it's definitely worth checking out.
A scenic drive through rolling hills will deposit you at Fish Creek, which is home to a new cafe called Little Oberon. It's a great spot for a coffee and a bite – I had the cauliflower pie and brownie, both of which were unreal.
If you are lucky enough, like I was, to have a friend who lives in the area with a vintage Land Rover, I suggest jumping in it and going for a local tour of the bay. There are some great beaches, coastal views and limestone cliffs – keep a lookout for local wildlife, too!
