On a brisk Autumn afternoon, after a breathtaking drive into Kangaroo Valley, I arrived at the Treehouse to feel that I had been teleported to an exotic Balinese retreat.
The Treehouse is immersed in the canopies of large gum tree's with smaller tropical fauna hugging the base. I was wowed by the attention to detail of the interior - with beautiful artworks and feather ornaments around the main living space. The Treehouse has one main and two other bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry space, an external and internal fireplace as well as an upper and lower viewing deck.
I immediately started the internal fire place to cosy the Treehouse up before pouring myself a glass of wine to enjoy on the spacious outside deck. Overlooking the Kangaroo River, the stay provides a beautiful outdoor entertaining area, with an outdoor dinning and lounge area situated under festoon lights hanging from the gums above. The best part of all about the outdoor space is the HUGE outdoor stone bath tub, where I spent my mornings, watching the sun flicker through the canopies.
I enjoyed a stroll into town the next day to grab coffee and a bite to eat. Autumn really is the most beautiful time to be in Kangaroo Valley, with the streets lined with gold and auburn colours of the deciduous trees. After coffee, I ventured out to some nearby waterfalls, Belmore falls and Fitzroy falls and enjoyed a stroll to the breathtaking Mannings lookout. Upon returning to the stay, I cozied up by the fire once more and enjoyed my last night in slowness, feeling grounded and rejuvenated in the canopy of the Treehouse.
Belmore Falls is a short but beautiful 30 minute drive through the winding valley roads, out of Kangaroo Valley. You are greeted with a two tier drop with the larger falls a total height of 77m. Surrounded by nothing but nature, hearing the roar of 77m of water plummeting to the rocks below, its certainly one of those adventures that makes you and your problems feel so insignificant.
A short walk from the property and you are in the heart of the Valley. The streets are lined with golden and auburn colours from the deciduous trees, a beautiful Autumn feel. Passing the Hampden Bridge, a large sandstone heritage structure, you can watch the kayakers cruising the Kangaroo River below. These can also be hired by the nearby Kayak and Canoe shop, if you'd like to enjoy this experience for yourself. I found great coffee at the Jing Jo Cafe and loved browsing through the various knick-knack stores of the main street.
A drive down a narrow dirt road and a short 20m walk from the car will lead you to one spectacular viewing platform that overlooks Kangaroo Valley. Mannings lookout is a lesser known adventure close by the Treehouse and would make for a perfect sunset location.
