Hobby Farm Haven

Set on 52 aces of beautiful farmland lies Old Cobbin Homestead. This historic home has been the essence of many pioneering families of the district, built circa 1861 for James Thompson, a drover and well-respected local, his wife, and their nine children, set on a 7,000 acre sheep & cattle property. It’s full of period character and rustic charm.

At the heart of the homestead is a fully-equipped country kitchen. The first night we arrived, a cold front was on its way through, bringing some wind with it. Mum took the opportunity to make a chicken and veggie soup to warm both our bellies and souls. While it was on the boil and the bad weather hadn’t hit, we took to the outdoor firepit to toast some marshmallows and sip some skin-contact wine.

The sun rose, and beautiful natural light flooding the rooms. We prepared a pot of coffee and some date scones and cream, and we planted ourselves on the porch table to take in our surrounds. We were pleasantly greeted by sheep, horses and kangaroos at various times of the day. After exploring further around the property, we headed out for the day - a very long lakeside stroll at the popular Lake Jindabyne.

All in all, Old Cobbin Homestead was a feast for the senses! Having four seasons in one day meant we had mornings with a crisp glow, days blanketed in sunshine, chilly evenings that brought us all together around the warm fires - all topped off with spectacular starry nights that made us look upwards in awe of this truly amazing place. The special touches and attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed… we felt truly at home. I’d go as far as saying my favourite stay of the year.
