A-frame Retreat Nestled in the Clouds
Adventure in Humevale, Melbourne, VIC, AU
Following our 4WD drive up to the A-frame, we were welcomed with the most spectacular view over the rolling hills, kissed by the pinks and oranges of sunset. We made the most of the remaining light by cooking a quick dinner on the barbeque and stargazed through the A-frame window whilst snuggling into bed.
Upon waking, it was a little chilly, but luckily we’d remembered our coffee equipment along with our other camping gear. We warmed ourselves up with a quick brew and a yummy breakfast. Before heading out for adventures we had one thing we needed to do - fill the Hot Tub! It’s a large tub and takes some time to fill so we decided to get back into the Land Rover and go exploring. As we wound our way down country roads we made a game out of stopping at the roadside produce stalls of local farmers. Eventually we stopped in at the dog-friendly Tooroourrong Reservoir Park and explored in the afternoon sun before heading back.
We spent the afternoon soaking in the solitude, reading and enjoying some drinks and a cheeky cheese platter, and lit the fire to warm the hot tub. We welcomed in the evening by cooking dinner over the fire and enjoyed eating whilst looking out over the beautiful ranges in front of us.
We made our way to the hot tub and enjoyed soaking in the warmth with a glass of wine as the sunset. The rest of the evening was spent gazing at the stars before calling it a night.
The following morning we were sad to pack up the Landy and head home, but a coffee and a takeaway spanakopita in the nearby town of Whittlesea was a sweet end to a relaxing time away.

Things We Did
- Local produce
- Swim
- Walk
Depending on which way you head out there will be various fresh fruit stalls on the side of the road outside orchards. We grabbed a bag of apples and avocados for our stay, they were delicious!
A short walk across from the A-Frame you will find the recently restored vintage hot tub. Take a bottle of wine and some snacks for the unreal sunset over the hills. NOTE - the hot tub takes a while to warm up as well as fill so be sure to allow a good 4-5 hours for this.
Only a short 10 minute drive from the A-Frame you will find the Toorourrong Reservoir, which is a great spot for an afternoon walk up to the lookout. It's dog friendly too ( on lead )
