Weekend in the Mountains

Only 2 hours away from Sydney, the retreat is located in Bilpin surrounded by beautiful trees and horses. It’s close enough to a range of activities, and far enough from the main roads for a quiet and undisturbed stay.

The retreat has absolutely gorgeous interiors with attention to detail. We especially loved the fireplace and all the beautiful cushions! There also wasn’t much cell signal (which I was worried about at first, but ended up really enjoying the digital detox), so you can completely embrace the experience.

We only spent two days at the Blue Mountains. On both days, we started the day with some lovely homemade breakfast before heading out for activities. At night we spent hours stargazing and doing some astrophotography in the massive front yard. No words can explain the amazement of seeing a sky full of stars above you.

We took advantage of the retreat’s location and visited some spots that have been on our bucket list, including Jenolan Caves, Glowworm Tunnels near Lithgow, and Lincoln Rock (More tips on these places below!). We also came across these adorable wallabies while driving to Jenolan, who were super chill and approachable.

It was so lovely to get out of the city, take a deep breath to relax and refresh. We’ll definitely be back for more getaways!

On the way to Jenolan Caves from Bilpin, you might come across some wild wallabies at a rest area! The exact location was -33.793781, 150.028758....
Katoomba is a lovely town to stop by before heading to catch sunset at Lincoln Rock....

Lincoln Rock is by far my favourite place for catching sunset at Blue Mountains. It’s a big open space where you can sit back and relax. Be mindful that there are no barriers so be careful if you have children or pets!...

There are multiple cave tours throughout the day, and it's best to prebook so you can plan ahead of time. We did the Lucas Cave tour, a 1.5 hours tour that covers the biggest and the most variety of caves at Jenolan, including the ‘cathedral’ and cave pool....
Located in Wollemi national park, the glowworm tunnels is a unique experience to walk through. Once you walk in, make sure you stay in one spot for a few minutes to let your eyes adjust to the darkness. And soon you’ll see glowworms surround the entire tunnel!

Driving to Glowworm Tunnel can be tricky, there's a long dirt road (~30km!) with LOTS of potholes. Mind you the roads are REALLY TOUGH! It took us double the amount of time to get there. We suggest driving a 4WD AND allow extra time.
