Tiny Cabin, Big Views, Wild Weather

Leaving Tidal River, mist and rain swept across Wilson’s Prom, wrapping the peaks in secrecy. The thought of a warm cabin felt irresistible as we wound our way past windswept beaches and rolling farmland, until the little township of Yanakie appeared on the horizon.

Pulling up to the tiny cabin, rain still tapped on the windscreen. A private deck overlooked green paddocks stretching to the water’s edge, but the wild weather nudged us quickly inside. Warmth and the comforting scent of wood greeted us immediately. The heater was already on, and the space felt instantly inviting. We’d spent days exploring the Prom, camping at Bear Gully, and tackling the multiday hike to Sealers Cove. The bed, plush and cozy, promised the perfect night’s sleep.

The days that followed settled into a gentle rhythm. We sipped steaming coffee on the deck and watched cows wander through the mist, while cockatoos and galahs wheeled across the grey sky. We curled up with books and blankets, collected firewood between downpours, and let the sound of rain on the roof become a soothing backdrop.

When we ventured out, everything we needed was just minutes away. Yanakie offered a great general convenience store, while nearby towns - Fish Creek, Foster, and Meeniyan welcomed us with cafés, quirky shops, and charming spots to linger over lunch. The cabin’s location also put us close to the area’s best wildlife and scenic walks, perfect for exploring without long drives.

By night, the wind howled and rain continued to lash at the windows, but inside the fire glowed and blankets kept us snug. What began as an escape from the weather turned into something even better - a treasured refuge, perfectly nestled between the Prom’s untamed beauty and Yanakie’s gentle charm.
