Cozy Cottage Escape in the Blue Mountains
Adventure in Blackheath, Blue Mountains, NSW, AU
Tucked away at the base of Mount Blackheath in Kanimbla Valley lies the beautiful Potters Cottage. There’s something rejuvenating about leaving the city behind and heading to the Blue Mountains to chase some cool autumn mountain air. Potters Cottage is set on 100 acre farmland with stunning views of sandstone cliffs, native grasslands and a variety of farm animals and native wildlife.
We immediately felt at home upon arriving at this charming vintage mountain cottage, with its beautiful garden and immediate sense of tranquillity. We loved relaxing on the deck and enjoyed watching the kangaroos graze in the fields. As evening falls, we would settle onto the couch by the crackling fireplace with a warm cup of tea for the ultimate cosy experience.
A short drive from the cottage, a must visit is the famous Logan Brae Orchard, where we indulged in warm spiced apple tea and what is arguably one of the best apple pies we’ve ever tasted.
We then headed to Blackheath for breakfast before setting off on a hike to the iconic Hanging Rock formation. This jaw dropping viewpoint offers one of the most awe inspiring views in the Blue Mountains, making you feel wonderfully small amidst nature’s grandeur.
Returning to the cabin, we unwound by the outdoor firepit as the sun set over the fields, leaving us feeling truly relaxed and rejuvenated. During our stay, we spotted so many native birds, kangaroos, wallabies, lizards and farm animals, so it’s a great place to experience a variety of wildlife, particularly if you are into birdwatching. The garden attracts a variety of native birds and this was definitely a highlight for me.
Potters Cottage is a hidden gem in the Blue Mountains, perfectly off grid for a genuine connection with nature, yet close to Blackheath town centre, great hikes and activities like horse riding. We can’t wait to return to enjoy those famous Blue Mountains sunsets from the comfort of the deck.

Hanging Rock is one of the most beautiful rock formations in the Blue Mountains located in Blackheath. This hike is a mostly flat fire trail so its family friendly and the view at the end is definitely worth the adventure. Take care at the clifftops but epic views of the Grose Valley especially at sunset and sunrise.
Immerse yourself in the charm of Logan Brae for the best apple produce you have ever tasted!! Explore the historic 110-year-old shop, and soak in the stunning mountain views. This was the best apple pie I have had in my life and definitely worth a visit. The orchard has seasonal operating hours so check the website and its only a short drive from the cabin. Located on Shipley Road.
If you are heading to the main town centre of Blackheath - stopping in for a quick coffee and produce shop at Little Piggy Deli is a must! The coffee is so good and you can enjoy a toasted sandwich and a little shop as well. Serving as a deli and delectable cake and cheese shop, alongside continental meats and single-origin coffee its the perfect pitstop.
Embark on an unforgettable horse ride through the Kanimbla Valley, just a short 5 minutes drive from Potters cottage. Nestled within the scenic Centennial Glen area, this historic horse riding business offers breathtaking views of the Blue Mountains escarpment. Riding groups are kept small to prioritise your safety and allow you to fully appreciate the tranquillity of this stunning valley.
Mount Blackheath Lookout offers not only spectacular views over the pastoral paradise that is the Kanimbla Valley – as well as surrounding cliffs – but it’s also a great vantage point for watching paragliders launch off the side of the mountain and drift like enormous, colourful birds around the landscape.
