A Tiny House Escape Near Sydney
Adventure in Somersby, Central Coast, NSW, AU
Just an hour north of Sydney, the weekend begins at the waterside favourite The Oyster Shed. For seafood lovers, it’s an absolute must. Tables sit right on the edge of the beautiful Hawkesbury River, where the calm water and river views instantly slow the pace and set the tone for a relaxing escape.
Freshly shucked oysters, lobster and local seafood headline the menu. Just next door sits Broken Bay Pearl Farm, the only pearl farm in NSW producing locally grown pearls. Inside, delicate jewellery sparkles under soft lighting while visitors learn about the fascinating process of pearl cultivation.
Before heading inland, the scenic Kangaroo Point Walk offers a peaceful stretch of bushland beside the river. The gentle track winds through quiet greenery with pockets of water views along the way, making it an easy and rewarding walk that feels far removed from city life.
A short 15 to 20 minute drive leads inland toward Somersby, where a secluded tiny house retreat sits tucked away down a private driveway. The space blends rustic charm with cosy comfort, featuring a sliding barn door bathroom, compact kitchen, eco friendly facilities and a dining nook overlooking lush bushland. A wooden ladder leads to the loft style bedroom, adding to the charm of the tiny house experience.
As evening falls, the outdoor space becomes the highlight. A fire pit crackles while the wood fired hot tub warms beneath festoon lights. Surrounded by forest and the soft sound of a nearby stream, the setting feels completely peaceful.
Nearby adventures include the rainforest trails of Strickland State Forest, lunch at the cosy The Grumpy Ginger Yarn Co, and breakfast at the picturesque Saddles Mount White, the perfect finish to a relaxing Central Coast escape. It’s just a short drive from Sydney, yet it feels a world away.
