The Sanctuary, The Nest

Waking up at The Nest, you wouldn't guess that it is nestled right in the middle of the adventure capitals of NSW. Central to Jervis Bay, the Kangaroo Valley, and the Shellharbour Coast, there are world class beaches, waterfalls, and mountain/cliff ranges to satiate your thirst for climbing, hiking, surfing, diving - whatever tickles your fancy.

In this way, the Nest felt like a cosy and rejuvenating sanctuary to relax, eat great food, and connect with the surrounding nature and animals. Upon waking up the first day, we ate breakfast under the trees; listening to the birds singing above before we met King, the resident horse who never failed to say hi and stick around for a cuddle. The cuddles didn't stop when we were graciously offered to meet the neighbour's baby lambs and calves. Seriously an animal lovers paradise.

In between snuggling up in the renovated caravan, we made it out to seven mile beach and Jump Rock in Macquarie Pass for a scenic walk to a serene wild swimming spot! We managed to have the spot all to ourselves to sit by the little waterfalls and relax in the natural pools.

While usually a great beach to cool off and stand up Paddleboard, the overcast weather didn't invite us into the water. Alternatively, we decided to walk along the rocks at the north side of the beach, exploring rock pools and foraging for some shellfish for our dinner....

While at the Nest, the resident horse King always seemed to be down for a cuddle, we would literally run down to king first thing in the morning and he would be waiting for a tasty treat and a scratch. We were also allowed access to the neighbour's farm to play with their cows and baby lambs. So cute....

Macquarie Pass is home to three different walks along the two rivulets that bring you to dozens of waterfalls and swimming holes - being Clover Hill Trail, Jump Rock, and Cascade Falls. We decided on Jump rock this time, a walk up the Macquarie Rivulet that brings you to tiered swimming holes with multiple rock jumps. A summer gem to help you cool off....
