Switching off at Wondernest

Before arriving at Wondernest, we stocked up on brews at Mountain Culture (and snuck in a cheeky fresh draught) as we had a feeling we wouldn't want to leave. The picturesque black shack sits proudly amongst an array of native flora that instantly makes you feel a million miles away from civilisation. Although the house initially feels like a mountain cabin, inside couldn't be farther from that with every modern convenience and a super slick style.

The Popes Glen Track (a fairly easy bush walk) starts almost at the back of the property and follows a trail along the gully eventually ending at Pulpit Rock Lookout. It was amazing to see the regeneration of the landscape after a fire decimated the area just 12 months before. In the evening, we lit the stove fire and cooked a simple dinner, completely switching off and enjoying a quiet moment to reflect on the crazy year that 2020 had been. We LOVED that there was no TV and made use of the huge selection of board games, listened to music and wished we never had to leave.

What's an adventure away without sampling locally brewed beer, huh?
Buying a record is a favourite souvenir, and Hat Hill Gallery is always a stop whenever I visit the Blue Mountains
