Slowly Salty
Adventure in Sandy Point, Gippsland, VIC, AU
Holidaying with tiny humans takes a special kind of approach. You need to consider so many different elements to ensure everybody has a fulfilling experience. Sandy Point is perfect for families. It's beautiful, quiet and the surrounding landscape is incredibly diverse offering a truly unique opportunity to just kick back and take it all in slowly or get as adventurous as one can get. From pristine shallow inlets and swimming holes to big surf breaks. Bushwalks and bike tracks to big drift sand dunes and the towering summits of Wilsons Promontory. Our villa was modest but it had everything we needed to be comfortable after two big days exploring from sun up to sundown. There's a big BBQ on an even bigger deck and a hammock swinging in the tree below. Having a spa to come home to was just icing on the cake.

You can drive very few beaches right up to the waters each in Victoria, but this is one of them! Less than five minutes drive from the villas is a Shallow inlet. If you're early enough, it's the perfect place to watch the sunrise over the water backdropped by the mountains of Wilsons Prom. The sheltered waters of the park make it perfect for getting your feet wet without having to tackle the surf
A 30 minute mostly flat stroll through the dunes and a natural tunnel of trees or a 5-minute drive, you'll have your feet in the sand on one of Victorias quietest and most pristine surf coasts. It's also an ideal spot to catch those last few golden rays of the day.
Fish creek is about as cute as country towns get. Less than 20 minutes from the villa, it's a great place to pick up supplies, explore local craft stores, but you can't pass through without stopping into the iconic Fish Creek Hotel for lunch. The foods are just as tasty as the staff is friendly. Steeped in local history, this beautiful Art Deco structure is located right in the heart of Fish Creek.
True to its name, the sand really does squeak underfoot when dry. Famous for its superfine quartz sand and epic surf, and it's also notorious for its rips. That said, this beautiful beach still has plenty to offer families with tiny humans. Odin loved exploring the massive granite boulders and watching the river flow through them and out into the surf. The trail leading down from the carpark is short, super easy and suitable for strollers.
A 30 minute mostly flat walk down a trail through the dunes or a 5-minute drive. The Main beach is an awesome place to catch the last few golden rays of the day.
A 30 min drive inland from Driftwood Villas to Meeniyan. A cute little country town is a great place to stock up on supplies and explore the community gardens and craft stores. If you've packed a bike, you can also take advantage and ride part of the Great Southern Rail Trail (68km of the epic Victorian countryside from Leongatha to Welshpool in South Gippsland)
Directly across the road, you can pick your own adventure. A 30 min walk through sandy dune trails in either direction will both lead you to water. Left will take you to Shallow Inlet Marine & Coastal Park, and right will take you to Sandy Point main beach and town.
It's no secret that Tidal River is a well-known gem of Wilsons Prom. About 45 minutes drive from the villa deep inside the park gates is Tidal River. This whole area has a stunning and really unique landscape. Where big mountains meet the sea and colourful tea tree dyed rivers wind through giant granite boulders out to the ocean. There's also a park information centre and food store at the campground. It's not the first time we've been here and it's certainly not the last.
