In the depths of the Snowy Mountains lives a humble cottage with a rich history.

Crackenback Cottage is known as the first settler dwelling established in the Thredbo Valley. It feels like a warm hug from the sharp temps outside. The unique design has hand-built rock walls which take the grunt of the elements, while the other walls where most of the sun hits are timber paneling.

There is something indescribable about waking to the sun flooding up the valley, through thick mist, right into your bedroom. Each morning we started with a gentle meander along the mowed paths through the field. Mountain air is honest.

We visited the cabin in a moment of seasonal transition. Right on the cusp of Autumn and Winter, a couple of snow dumps in. Perfect for summer hiking with a twist!

We explored a more or less untracked section of the Rams Head Range. Access to the snowfields is just a stone's throw away - wishing we could be here in the ski season too!
