Beauty in Brigadoon
Adventure in Newborough, Gippsland, VIC, AU
After months of being stuck in our apartment, we headed out to central Gippsland for some much-needed rest and reflection. Our location for the weekend was the beautiful Brigadoon Cottages. The space is submersed in nature, with grasslands, gumtrees and native birds all living harmoniously around you. We took the time to wander around the property with walks and views in our own backyard and spent the evenings with a glass of wine and dinner by the fire.
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by our host Michelle, who showed us to our cottage and gave us a little backstory about the history of the space. Leave all your utensils at home as there is a full kitchen, with an oven, microwave, coffee machine and fridge for all your cooking needs. If you feel like hitting the town there are local restaurants and shops only ten or so minutes away. The cottage also comes with a prepared fireplace to warm your soul and a spa to relax your muscles after a long day of adventure.
The cottage is only 15 minutes from the beautiful Uralla Nature Reserve where you will find endless short scenic trails and 45 minutes from Tarra-Bulgar National park which are both well worth the trip. For some rest, relaxation and endless exploration, Brigadoon Cottage is the perfect base to explore central Gippsland.

Things We Did
- Hike
- Walk
- Lookout
A 45-minute drive from the cottages, this national park features a host of walks and hikes ranging from 30 minutes to a few days. It offers beautiful views of mountain ash trees, native plantations and plenty of native birds. There is also a lovely suspension bridge that is a highlight.
You can step out of your cottage and explore the short trails and grasslands in your own backyard. There is a boundary so you won't get lost and on a day when you want to be close to home, it is a lovely added feature.
Filled with a mixture of walks this nature reserve is best for those who want to soak in some sound of nature and take their time in the forest. There is a mix of easy and hard walks and some are accessible to all. Stewart track was my personal favourite as it was a gentle walk that was completely immersed in the forest. You can also hear the gentle trickles of the stream along the path.
This is a spot we saw just after leaving Tarra-Bulga National park. It was a 3-5 minute drive from the park on Traralgon-Balook Road. It is a small turn off with an epic view.
