The Leckey family are passionate gardeners. When we acquired the property in January 2023, our priority was to shield the sheds and rain tanks from view whilst capturing the vistas of the valley all with the mindset of keeping it LOW maintenance. We had recently returned from a trip to the UK where horn beam hedges left an impression with their dense foliage. Inspired from our trip, we commissioned Kim Pammer a local landscaper to assist us with the initial concepts we had in mind. She took our vision to the next level with the sweeping large garden bed at the front which will “ball up” over time as per the inspirational images attached. The house needed softening, so we planted a dozen crimson glory vines which have stunning large vein like leaves that turn a brilliant crimson in the Autumn.
Eventually these vines will wrap themselves around the house grounding the home into the landscape and making it part of the garden. Some of the many projects we completed in 2023 were removal of existing portable cabin in garden, installing an automated sprinkler system, removal of dairy and cattle yards close to the house to open the vistas to the paddocks, post and quality timber gates installed, and designing and building a pergola for outdoor entertaining which will eventually be covered by the vines.
Please help yourself to the fruit on the trees and the veggie and herb garden. There is an array of herbs planted for cooking and the oranges are exceptional when in season.
A side note … the large table in the kitchen is an old wool table from a sheep farm out of Ballarat. The original laminate bench was not appealing so we set about to find the right piece for the centre of this large space. Our local builder added a new solid base to the table and with a lick of oil and slab of glass, it is now the central hub of the lodge.
