Born in Kota Kinabalu formerly Jesselton, North Borneo made for a most unusual childhood. All the more being the son of a senior Government official whose unofficial and official capacity was, among other things, was to entertain all manner of dignitaries including Prime Ministers, Ambassadors, Naval Captains, Admirals, Generals, Army Commands, future Australian Admirals, including even the Royal Family, made for a most unusual upbringing.
