The house is beautiful and set in a great spot. Kids were playing outside while the grown-ups enjoyed sitting in front of a gorgeous fireplace. It's also very close to Mt Buller which was amazing to visit in springtime. The host was great and very helpful.

We had a nice time at the house for an end of year getaway with family.

There’s not a whole lot of outdoor space on the property, but it wasn’t really an issue as it’s super close to the beautiful (a...nd cold) Delatite River and various picnic spots.

We enjoyed the walks on Stirling and Buller as well as the Delatite track. There’s something for everyone with varied levels of fitness required. The playground at the picnic ground was a hit with the kids.

The kitchen was well equipped and the large outdoor and indoor tables were great for family meals.

All in all it was quite a nice stay, the location for hiking, swimming, skiing is great so if you’re after somewhere a bit more remote with nice outdoor activities then the house is suitable.

Hiking Plain Creek Track

Starting from the base of Carter’s Mill Day Reserve, you will begin your hike up Mount Buller's Plain Creek Track. The track has gentle hills and a few rocky obstacles, but perfect for the beginner to the intermediate hiker. If you hike to the top, about 2.5km from the base, you will see one of Mt Buller’s many waterfalls. The waterfall will meet you with a refreshing spray. *Note: This waterfall cannot be swum in, as the hike concludes at the top of the falls, approximately 1km above sea level.

Mountain Bike Riding Summer

In summer, Mt Buller's premier snow runs turn into the ultimate downhill mountain biking course with a variety of challenging technical trail features such as berms, ramps and jumps. Accessible by chairlift, Mt Buller has been operating as a downhill venue since the 1980s, offering generations of riders the chance to feel the ultimate downhill thrill.

Cycling Down Mount Bullers Summit

We started our day by driving up to the tipity-top of Mt Buller’s Summit with our bikes. This is the tallest peak of Mt Buller, reaching 1805m above sea level, where you will be graced with awe by Mt Buller’s vastness and beauty.

Of course, the fun had just begun. We walked down to the base of Mt Buller’s Village, and cycled back down the entirety of the mountain. We recommend you drive up, unless you are an extremely athletic individual who is willing to cycle up the mountain! Make sure to bring someone who can drive your vehicle back down and meet you at the base of Mt Buller. We cycled down the main road at a rapid speed, with an elevation loss of 220m. After an exhilarating ride down the mountain, we were all very sweaty and were craving a refreshing swim.

Snow Sports At Mt Buller

With over 300 hectares of skiable terrain, there is something to appeal to all levels of ability. Mount Bullers runs range from the wide beginner’s slopes of Bourke St and Burnt Hut Spur, to the challenge of our black runs like Chamois. With 22 lifts, Mt Buller has the largest lift network in Victoria, including thirteen chairlifts (three of which are high speed detachables) four T-bars, two rope tows (counted as one) and four magic carpets. The resort features three Frank Terrain Parks designed for all skill levels, with a dedicated snow grooming team to maintain their condition.

Bbq Night At The Merrijig Motor Inn

We highly recommend you conclude your day by visiting the Merrijig Motor Inn - a family-friendly restaurant and hotel with a sweet stretch of garden, approximately 20 minutes from Mt Buller. The staff are lovely, and incredibly well informed about gin, so make sure you try a gin and tonic. We were lucky enough to dine there on BBQ night, where you will be able to tuck into delicious jacket potatoes, garlic prawns, vegetable skewers and tasty mixed salads.

High Country Bushwalking

Go bushwalking in the High Country in the summer months and you’ll feel the majesty of the Australian bush melt into your heart. The ancient rolling hills and towering eucalypts are unlike any other place on earth.
Surrounded by State Forests and National Parks, Mansfield and Mount Buller offers breath-taking hiking and bushwalking for all fitness levels. Bushwalks range in duration from under an hour to multiple days, but no matter how far you hike the tranquility of the Australian bush is bound to ease worries and enliven the spirit.
