Feelin' Fresh in the High Country

Rolling in to the property, amongst the walnut trees and clear night skies, we already knew we were in for an epic stay at Cortes Cabin. A fuzzy wombat greeted us in the driveway, and we could hear the Ovens River flowing below. Nature was already turning it on. We lit the fire outside and set the weekend off the right way, with a cheeky beer to plan our adventures for the next days.

The rest of the weekend was spent exploring the surrounding high country, with hikes up to the horn at Mt Buffalo, getting lost on some 4WD tracks, and hiking up to Feather Top. The day was finished with an amazing sunset by the fire back at the cabin.

The next day, with plans to ride the mountain bike tracks at mystic parks being halted by the enduro world cup, we decided to hike up the mountain and watch some of the riders do their thing on some of the best tracks in Australia. Something about being in the high country left us with a feeling of rejuvenation and a sense of adventure that stayed with us long after leaving.

Up early, we set off to Mt Buffalo in hopes of seeing the sunrise at the Horn, we hiked to the top and were greeted by some beautiful skies and scenes above the clouds. This is a steep but reasonably short track to the top.

Getting lost on 4WD tracks, we eventually found our way up to the track at Mount Feathertop. We hiked a part of the track that seems endless, with some of the best views I have witnessed in the country.

Plans to ride the park were stopped as they had closed it for the enduro world cup, so we hiked up and watch the best do their thing on the tracks. Some of the best riding in the country.

After a long day of exploring, a stiff drink was in order. Reed & Co offered the perfect wind down with some amazing tastings and knowledgable crew to help us out.
