Paterson Lookout

The Paterson Skywalk and Lookout is a vision that took me a decade to turn into reality. I bought a bush block with a beautiful view of the Paterson Valley, with the river and the village in the foreground and the bush covered hills behind, and built a home. Now the time has come for me to share this beautiful home with others who have a similar appreciation of natural beauty and a sense of place.
Spending a few days at the Lookout may be the holiday you need.
Located 20 metres from my house (up 14 steps) and with a double bed, it has its' own power and internet but you have to come to the house (where I live) for bathroom/ toilet/ kitchen. You will have access to the whole property, sharing with all the birds and kangaroos in the bush at the rear of the property. All the photos in this listing were taken on my property. Paterson has a lovely historic walk and Dungog and Morpeth are all 25 minutes away by train or car, as is Maitland. The Pokolbin vineyards are 45 minutes to the South, and the base of the Barrington Tops with swimming holes in crystal clear rivers is 45 minutes to the North. If you bring your car there is free parking at my front door, or you can come here on the train from just about anywhere, the station is a 10 minute walk. The house is less than 5 years old and everything works perfectly with the exception of what looks like a corner spa bath in the pictures, which is great for a hot bath or shower but does not make bubbles.

Additional Information

Food: There are two pubs and three cafes in Paterson. The Paterson Tavern near the train station does meals. The Paterson Lodge does breakfast and lunch on weekends. The hamburgers at Paterson Country Café are great, and the service station has a café and gift shop. There are also pubs at Vacy and Gresford that do meals. The supermarket and the butcher both close at midday on Saturdays and are not open on Sundays. Maitland, Dungog, and Raymond Terrace are all only 20 minutes away if you need a supermarket on the weekend.
Wildlife: If you want to see animals the best times are the first couple of hours in the morning and the last couple of hours in the afternoon. There are often kangaroos on the front lawn or up the back behind the bush studio early in the morning. If you're nice and quiet you will see lots of birds flying around below the deck and right up the back of the block at these times. You will hear kangaroos bouncing through the bush if you are sleeping in the bush bedroom. Don't be alarmed if you walk outside at night and are confronted by a possum. They are reasonably tame and are far more scared of you than you are of them. There is an echidna family and a couple of goannas but I don't see them very often. If you leave any food outside overnight don't expect it to be there in the morning.
