Additional Information

Cape Cabin is a space of whimsy and surprise that took hold of our heart strings from the moment we saw it. It is a haven away from our urban reality, surrounded by nature and overflowing with details that make our hearts sing.

Our established native garden is a haven for birds, wildlife and nature lovers all year round. We regularly see wallabies, sea eagles, rainbow lorikeets and echidnas from the vantage point of our upstairs lounge and deck and regardless of the size of your group, you will find many quiet nooks throughout the property to sit and relax and listen to the soft chatter of birds in the canopy of large native trees that surround the property.

The house itself is a little bit magical... its handcrafted character and carefully curated mix of old and new give it a sense of space and cosiness in just the right measures. Although it has recently been painted and lovingly refurbished with all the comforts you will need for a relaxing adventure with family and friends, it still retains all of its original rustic whimsy and charm.

Bedding, quality linen and towels are supplied for all guests and the house is fully equipped to comfortably accommodate up to 12 people. As Cape Cabin has been designed as a family retreat, we would prefer to restrict the number of adults to the private bedrooms with Queen sized beds (6) - please contact us to discuss your circumstances if your group exceeds this number of adults. Any approved guests beyond the initial 6 are charged at an additional nightly rate of 50.00 per person.

Sand Dune Surfing

Discovered by Mandy
Just a little way along the beach track across from the cabin you will come to a crossroad. Turn left (the other way is the beach) and go through the tree tunnel and you will come to a protected little dune valley. These dunes (rather than the more infamous Spew Hill) were perfect for the kids to dune and for us to have a sunset picnic and relax....

Rock Pool Swimming

Discovered by Mandy
Along the north west end of Cape Woolamai beach – right before the headland you'll come to a secret swimming hole (accessible at low tide). Only locals seem to know about this place, and it’s pretty magical. In the middle of the rocks is a stunning rock pool filled with bluey-green water and some friendly stray fish, and comes with some excellent launching platforms to do some great cannonballs....

Bass Straight Direct

Discovered by Mandy
We made a few pit stops on the way down to grab some supplies to feed our army of hungry children and ourselves – one being Bass Straight Direct – for the freshest seafood...

The Pinnacles

Discovered by Mandy
To the south end of the cape is the Pinnacles – a stunning rock formation off the cliff. Begin your walk along the beach and collect some beach treasures along the way, then head up the stairs and along the path. The walk is lovely and if you go at first light you will spot lots of wallabies and bird life. We did a 4km walk there and back, but you can walk further along if you wish....

Phillip Island Winery

Discovered by Mandy
We checked out the Phillip Island Winery for some delicious local wine. We threw down a quick charcuterie board while the kids chased the resident sausage dog Sid around the grass....

Coastal Walks Surfing

There is a bush track immediately in front of Cape Cabin with stairway access to an impressively wide, spacious beach and some of the best left and right-hand surf breaks in Victoria. Perfect for advanced surfers + bodyboarders, long beach walks, sandcastles and exploring the rock pools at low tide.

Head to the wild coastal trails, beach walks and cliff top tracks that cover Phillip Island and discover the island's rich natural landscape. Take an easy stroll through beautiful and lush wetlands and along deserted beaches, or get the heart racing with a challenging coastal track or cliff top walk. Take in the spectacular views as your reward.

George Bass Coastal Walk

The George Bass Coastal Walk is a cliff top walk that is approximately seven kilometres long. The walk offers stunning views of the coastline and follows the route of the explorer George Bass' epic voyage of discovery along the southern edge of the Anderson Peninsula, over 200 years ago....

Surfing At Smiths Beach

The island is famous for it's surf breaks and boasts sheltered bays for beginners, reef and beach breaks and is considered one of the best surf beaches in the country. If you're learning to surf you can hire equipment from the island's collection of surf shops or book in for a lesson.

Smiths Beach is normally the best surf spot for kids and beginners surfers on popular Phillip Island. This small beach has soft waves that are ideal for practising in the whitewater or catching green waves when the surf is small.

Surfing At Woolamai Surf Beach

A popular spot for more experienced surfers. It offers some of the best beach breaks in Victoria, often with long lefts and rights peeling over the wide banks and into the deep rips. The Carpark break is located to the east of the surf club, while Anzac Alley is to the west of the club and offers good right handers. All Woolamai breaks are best with a low to moderate swell and northerly winds. Cape Cabin overlooks this incredible national surfing reserve and is enviably positioned as the closest property to the beach access point commonly referred to by locals as Aussie Track....

Whale Watching

Be sure to visit Phillip Island between May and September for the opportunity to see humpback whales, southern right whales and orcas as they migrate from Antarctica to the warmer waters off Queensland for calving. The best whale watching spots are Cape Woolamai, Surf Beach, The Nobbies and Summerlands. Don't forget your binoculars....
