Pack the ski gear and head to your family home away from home at the foot of Mt Ruapehu. This modern 3-bedroom home has stunning mountain views from the open-plan living area and expansive deck. After a big day on the slopes, sink into the outdoor spa pool under the stars, then warm up by the fireplace and melt into the feather-filled sofas. The drying room means wet gear is warm and ready for morning. Quiet neighbourhood, one acre of space, 15-min walk or 1-min drive to Ohakune town.
The Property
Spacious and thoughtfully set up for families, this home sleeps 8 across three bedrooms. The master has a luxurious queen bed, private ensuite and those stunning mountain views. The second bedroom has a queen bed with hotel-quality linen, and the third is set up perfectly for kids with full-sized bunk beds. Two bathrooms plus a separate toilet means no queue after a big day on the mountain — and there's a bathtub for those who want a proper soak.
The kitchen is genuinely exceptional — better equipped than most Airbnbs you'll ever stay in. Large pots, a slow cooker, a big roasting dish, a Nespresso machine and everything you need to cook a proper meal for eight. Guests comment on it constantly. Open-plan living flows through bi-folding doors onto the expansive deck, so you can enjoy those mountain views without leaving the comfort of home.
For evenings in, there's something for everyone: Netflix, Disney+, Neon, a stereo, video games, and a huge collection of books, board games and puzzles for adults, kids and families. When the mountain disappears into the dark, this place really comes into its own.
The brand new enclosed drying room in the garage is a game-changer for ski and snowboard families — hang all your wet gear overnight and it'll be warm and dry ready for another day on the slopes. Ski and board racks, plenty of kit storage, and ample parking including room for trailers, campervans and horse floats.
Portacot and cot bedding available on request. Dedicated workspace with monitor if you need to sneak in some work.

I've come here a few times now and just love it, like home away from home. The views are spectacular and the place is so cozy and stocked with everything you need. I especially love the wood stove and... the nespresso machine. The owners are very receptive and always gets back to me right away. Highly recommend this place which is walking distance to town :)

If you’re coming to explore all the National Park has to offer, this is the place! A true home away from home, with everything you need for a relaxing & comfortable stay. We explored the Taranaki Fall...s walk which was a great alternative to the Tongariro which sadly was cancelled due to strong winds. Only 5 mins to Ohakune & Powderkeg which was great for a beer afterwards, and then headed home to our retreat for a relaxing Spa! Would recommend, and book again in future! Thanks Jo!

Walk To The Mangawhero River And Take A Cold Dip
Head out the front of the property off the deck. Walk along the driveway and grass track where you see the sheds with the tractor. Follow the trees and head all the way along the track where you'll end up at the river. Take a dip to cool off.

Adventures Nearby
Here are some details about the adventures nearby. Refer to the map for their location.
Kombi Coffee
While exploring Ohakune, we stumbled on this cute VW Kombi bar serving up delicious iced coffees.
Lunch At The Powder Keg
We enjoyed delicious pizzas, wine, and beers by the indoor fire in a cozy, rustic setting at The Powder Keg.
Cycling The Old Coach Road
One of the most popular MTB trails in the area, the Old Coach Road literally rides through history (though you can walk it too!) With beautiful old viaducts, historic roads and lush regenerating native forest, it's a trail with something for everyone. We chose to ride in the more downhill direction (from Horopito to Ohakune) but it can be tackled a few different ways, just make sure to organise transport from one end to the other!
Mangawhero Falls
While driving up Ohakune Mountain road we made a quick stop at Mangawhero Falls. This 5 minute walk offers excellent views of the 28-meter high falls and down into the valley. Fun fact, this location was also featured in the Lord of the Rings films where Gollum catches a fish.
Sunset At Turoa Ski Field Carpark
The perfect place for sunset with epic views! Just a short drive up the mountain from Ohakune town centre, we took snacks with us and watched the colours light up the evening sky.
Snowboarding At Turoa
Perfect bluebird day on the slopes, just a short drive from the house.
