Hey, Im Maxine Lovell, my husband and I love hosting people on our rural property and we are looking forward to meeting you. We are 3rd generation family farmers on the land here at Hutiwai. Everything we do on the farm now is built around our values, history and love for the land. We are committed to sustainable farming and minimising our impact on the environment. Each cow on our farm is known (many of them have names) and each cow a distinct personality. We love our girls. We bought the farm in 1993 and are still milking today. As a teenager, I wasn’t all that interested in farming. I actually couldn't think of anything worse and was determined to get off the farm and headed to the big smoke. But when I had a serious car accident and broke every bone in my face except my nose, I came home and met my husband. We’ve raised eight children on the farm. I love the little community out here, it’s great to be part of. It’s like an extended family. I think it’s always in your bones - country life. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else now. And we love being able to welcome you here, share the land and experience the peace and quiet of our country life.

Outdoor Bath

Having an outdoor bath is always a highlight experience for me. Mokau is one of the few views of Taranaki Maunga with the ocean in front of It and it makes one of the most surreal and calming views to enjoy that in the bath was a dream come true.

Enjoy the picturesque landscapes surrounding you while rising with the sun, from the comfort of your bed, having a bath, on the deck, or down the beach.

Surf At Your Doorstep

There can always be a couple of waves to be found around Mokau, choosing from both right and left-handers, on both sides of the river mouth and a long the beach. We made the most of our amazing location that had a private access to the beach.

Swim In The Front Yard

There is a private access down to the beach where you can swim, have a bonfire, check out the caves or go for a long walk. You can also access the beach publicly by heading to Awakino beach. With fresh snow on the mountain we decided to freshen up with a quick dip and make the most of the prime location.

Mokau River

There are many different access to the river depending if you are wanting to fish, take a boat out, go for a swim, a walk or simply just relax on the sand. It's such a beautiful river - a hot spot destination on the map for white baiting.

We decided to stop at the Three Sisters and take a stroll along the beach to explore the picturesque rock formations and caves. The beach is only accessible at low tide, which makes it even more special.

This location has got to give one of the best view of our beautiful Taranaki Mounga. One of the few views that you can get witnessing the water/ocean in front of the Mounga. This was definitely one of the highlight of our trip and shows just how stunning Taranaki really is.

Mount Damper Falls

At 74 metres, Mount Damper Falls is one of the highest in the North Island. A one-kilometre trek to the falls return via same track. From beautiful farmlands and furry animals to lush foliage and native bush, the walk itself is an enjoyable family-friendly adventure. Once you reach your destination, the remarkable waterfall is a vision never to be forgotten.

DOC info – from the car park, step over the style and walk over the formed track beside the creek. The first 10 minutes are over open farmland – respect private property, leave gates as you find them and stay on the track. Follow the track until you reach the bridge, from where the bush starts. The track descends gradually to two viewing platforms.
