INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
Soren and Sonya first came to Turon Gates in 1972 on a camping trip. They fell in love with its natural beauty and, after 4 days, decided they would love to retire there some day. Their dream was to create a bush retreat close enough to get away for a few days but far enough to leave the hustle and bustle of the city far behind.

Each cottage location was carefully selected to afford complete privacy and stunning outlooks over the rolling countryside or over the tranquil river. Sonya makes a mean cappuccino if you would like to drop in and Soren has many stories about the history of the area, the gold rush era and the historic Chinese walls throughout the property.

But if you just feel like being alone, the nice thing about Turon Gates is that you never need to see anyone. It's totally up to you.
And for the meantime there are not many places where you can get mobile reception at Turon - and that's just the way we like it.

PETS - Pets are welcome with a few simple rules. You will be asked to pay $45 for 2 nights night direct to the property if you would like to bring your pet with you.

1) Please bring your pet’s bedding and feeding bowls. Please do not use our pillows, doonas or bedspreads for bedding nor bowls from the kitchen to feed your pet.
2) Your pet is allowed inside but not up on beds or chairs. Please remove their droppings.
3) Your pet must be kept under control at all times. Wildlife can be very tempting to chase after. Your dog does not have to be kept on a leash as long as you are certain he will come when called.
4) It is forbidden to leave your pet alone in the cabin; any pets found unattended will result in cancellation of your trip without accommodation refund.

Please ensure your cottage is left in good order with dishes washed and put away. A cleaning charge will apply for extra cleaning.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Turon Gates is off grid and environmentally friendly and we use only gas and solar energy. And by special plan - limited wifi and limited mobile phone reception - simply enjoy the serenity of the Australian bush!

It’s such a great spot to switch off from the city chaos. You’re surrounded by wildlife, clear starry nights, and nothing but nature. The place is kept really well for what it is, it’s dog‑friendly an...d our fur kid absolutely loved it too. Honestly, 10/10. Perfect for anyone wanting to unplug and find some peace.

Just outside the cabin there is a beautiful spot to enjoy a meal or just cuddle up by the fire while watching the sunset. Also an excellent spot to make some s'mores (I loooove s’mores).

Forest Walks

Forest Walks

There are plenty of walks surrounding the cabin. Enjoy the beautiful nature and say hello to the kangaroos living in the area.

Hiking Bird Watching

The Turon and Capertee Valleys' have always been famous for amazing birdlife. Aside from the Wedge-Tail Eagles soaring along Eagle Hawk Drive on the eastern side of the valley, the large assortment of birds never fails to impress. Springtime (September to November) is the best in terms of numbers, a good assortment is prevalent all year round. Enjoy from your balcony or go for a hike.
The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel

A super cosy little hotel located not too far away from the cabin. Head here for some lunch or maybe just enjoy a beer in the sun on the back veranda. Whatever you feel like it’s worth a visit. Craft Works Distillery is also located at the back of the hotel in a small tin shed.

Capertee Valley

The Capertee Valley is recognised internationally as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and one of the 50 top birdwatching locations in the world. A diversity of habitats has resulted in a proliferation of bird species finding refuge here. Surrounded on all sides by spectacular sandstone cliffs, the valley is in transition zone where the forests of the Blue Mountains give way to the woodlands of the NSW western slopes.

Vegetation varies from semi-rainforest to open forest, grassy woodlands and farmland grasslands. Not as heavily cleared as many other rural areas, the valley retains large areas of the critically endangered White Box–Yellow Box–Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and Derived Native Grassland. Many woodland bird species, whose populations have fallen alarmingly elsewhere, remain relatively common and easily seen here.

Gardens Of Stone National Park

The Gardens of Stone National Park forms part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. 'Pagoda' rock formations cluster near sandstone escarpments, where erosion has sculpted beehive-shaped domes. Banksia, dwarf casurinas and other wind-pruned heathland plants give the area its garden-like appearance. Pagoda rock formations form when ironstone plates occur in sandstone. As sandstone hardens and is eroded due to weathering, ironstone is all that remains.
