Booking the skyroom was a little surprise getaway for my partner Lili and i. We left sydney later than planned & arrived in the dark with the rain lashing down! A sense of mystery and intrigue hung ov...er us both as we wondered what lay ahead.
Once leaving the main road and entering through the gates we followed the meandering track up to the cabin. Grey kangaroos scattered each time we turned a bend,following Maries instructions to the letter we arrived! The cabin was rustic and homely & we quickly set about starting a fire in the wood burning stove. After unpacking the car we settled down on the couch, popped a bottle of red & got comfy watching the fire crackle away.
It was my first realisation that the simple things in life bring most joy, to stare into the fire as we shared conversation over a cheese plate. Taking it in turns to top up eachothers glass.. content would be an understatement.
Needless to say we slept the deepest dreamy sleep, maybe it was the wine..maybe it was the insanely comfortable bed..maybe it was both.
The sun breaks out and it was affirmed why i had chosen the sky room. The view is magical... the endless wilderness lay out before you and its view you cannot look way from.
Another fire is started on the dying embers & a breakfast of duck eggs, jamon, heirloom tomatoes & warm baguette is on the menu. Lili joked that there was almost no need to leave and explore nature as the panoramic windows let nature in. It was right there with us!
That said we did eat our breakfast outside.
I took myself for a walk down the track closes to the cabin and had the pleasure of being observed by the elusive swamp wallaby. Taking the advice of previous guests i filled up the fire tub and started the fire giving it plenty of time to warm up. We spent the afternoon playing board games, project brainstorming and drinking copious amount of tea as the bath warmed up. Taking it in turns to swish the water and stoke the bath was ready to go. Watching the sunset from inside the tub as the fire crackled beside us was nothing shy of magical. We sat there long into the night
Dinner was a large steak and potatoes with cafe de paris butter of course cooked on top of the wood burner, i felt this almost primal urge being scratched everytime i used the stove like a caveman roasting a mammoth leg ( this was honestly the coolest thing about the cabin for me, as a chef this ticked so many boxes!)
Again we slept like logs and had regrets for not booking a third night. We packed up and enjoyed one last breakfast cooked on the stove before saying goodbye.
Just before reaching the gate to join the main road back to civilisation we spotted the wild emus!
we will most certainly be back..

This place is amazing!! Had the most beautiful time here, had everything we needed. The fire tub was such an incredible experience and the view of the stars at night from bed was even better. Would absolutely recommend this place for an escape

This setup is absolutely incredible, my partner and I had the most amazing time. From the stargazing roof, to the toasty fire heated cabin, to the phenomenal view (that can be enjoyed from the fire tu...b outside, the lounge AND the bed), to the visiting roos and emus, to the serene sounds of birds and nature, to the comfiest bed ever, we soaked in every moment - this was really the escape we needed to ground ourselves. We also had great communication with the host and all necessities and even more was provided. Thank you for an unforgettable stay, we would highly recommend to anyone!

Tianjara Falls Lookout
If you are visiting from Canberra make sure you stop in at Tianjara Falls on the way home. It is a short walk to the viewing platform but if you are for a bit more adventure there are plenty of rock climbing routes to take advantage of!
Lookout Over Tianjara Falls
Tianjara Falls was quite a nice discovery. It's not as busy as some others and you can park just a couple of meters from the lookout. No reason not to stop by when you're in the area.
Jerrawangala Lookout
Just a short 15 minute drive and you have arrived at one of the most beautiful lookouts in the area. With its sweeping, panoramic views out over the hinterland to the coast, from Gerroa down to Ulladulla, Jervis Bay, St Georges Basin, Morton National Park and Swan Lake. This beautiful lookout has it all! A must do.
Hiking Along Hell Hole Trail
Hell Hole Trail is about a 4.5km return. It's a fire trail and can get a bit muddy when it's raining. The waterfall at the end is well worth it, there was nobody there when we visited which made it even more special.
Morton National Park
Another paradise for bushwalkers. We decided to walk the Florance Head track, just west of Milton, which leads to some amazing views of Pigeon House Mountain and the Budawangs. It is only about 6km long but it (as well as the dirt road leading to it) can get quite soggy after rainy weather so make sure to bring appropriate footwear and to be confident driving on dirt roads before heading there. We would definitely recommend walking it in spring as the wildflowers were spectacular!
