The Wattle Cabin has a lovely spacious outlook and peaceful location. Close to the entrance of the Wilson's Promontory National Park and approximately 35min drive to Tidal River (plus extra time to sl...ow for wildlife especially dawn/dusk/night) for walks, hikes, beaches, sunset, marine wildlife amphibious vehicle cruises and campground facilities. The cabin features a reasonable queen bed, basic kitchenette, and renovated bathroom with shower. If the weather is clear you can watch sunrise from the deck - I recommend moving the deck furniture undercover at night to avoid chairs being covered in seasonal dew (or rain) for the morning. Pricing on Riparide at the time of booking/reviewing is suitable for the age of the cabin's fixtures and quality of decor/kitchenette supplies, and comparable to similar properties (the property is listed on another booking platform at a significantly higher price, so we were happy to have the option to stay at the cabin and support a smaller nature escape booking platform.) Enjoy the area, it's a special part of Victoria for nature lovers.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is perfect — close to everything at Wilsons Prom. The BigDrift ist so close — and the cabin clearly has so much love and attention to detail in it. Check-...in was very flexible, and we were treated to amazing sunsets right from the cabin. We would definitely recommend this place and would happily stay again.

Hi, I'm Wendy!
I'm an outdoor loving architect with an absolute passion for finding elements of beauty in every aspect of life. I am a proud mother of three enjoying the next stage with grand-babies.
Life has been busy and full of surprises but now it has led me on a new adventure. I craved a relaxing escape, a place of solitude and pure natural beauty. A place where I can be creative, be outdoors , plant a garden and I can enjoy every single moment with family and friends.
The refurbishment of the Yanakie House and Cabins has allowed me to express my lifelong interest in art, collecting and making. I immediately loved the connection I developed with the space. My creative and practical skills were combined to create an artistic and relaxing paradise in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. I have ensured access for all levels of mobility and now I want to be able to share this with all of you!
The Yanakie House is a perfect base for my walks into the prom, we are ten minutes from the gate of Wilson’s Promontory National Park. My first ever hike was through stunning Wilsons Promontory many years ago and I have wonderful childhood memories of Christmas in my uncle’s VW combi on Waratah Bay.
Yanakie, a Koori name from the Gunai language, is interpreted as “ between the waters’ draws strong parallels to it's incredible heritage. To our South West is beautiful Waratah Bay and Sandy Point with their fabulous swimming beaches. To the East, Foster, Port Franklin and Toora open onto Corner Inlet. The region has is a strong aboriginal heritage, nearby is Toora, (which translates from the Koori Gunai as “women who look after the fire and keep the fire alight’.
From me to you, I would love you to enjoy this space. Come and get creative, reflect, relax. There are so many stunning hikes, places to visit, fish to catch, you can paint or do yoga in our studio, set up a marquee for a special day or just relax with an indescribable view.
Make it special, in your own way.

The Big Drift
Returning to the Wilsons Promontory for a second little adventure, we were blown away by this incredible spot that I'm sure many miss! Just beyond the entrance to the national park, you can take a walk through the bush to arrive at these expansive dunes. It feels like you've stepped into the Sahara Desert and the ever-changing winds means the only footsteps you'll likely see are your own.
The Big Drift Walk
Located just an easy 2km walk from the Stockyard Campsite, you will find yourself at the bottom of a steep sandy hill. Trek up and over to find yourself at your destination. This is the Big Drift, an incredibly vast, never ending and stunning sand dunes located in the Northern section of Wilsons Promontory. The kids will be mind blown by the sand-scape, so take some time to explore this hidden place, but don’t forget to set a mark on your phone / point of return - it’s easy to get lost! Level: Cruisy. Distance: 4km+ return. Time: allow 90+ minutes.
Sandy Point
Sandy Point is a beautiful beach, take the kids and have a play or take a nice long walk from one point to the next. Iconic for its beautiful sand and clear waters, you might even find a wave!
Stand Up Paddle Kayaking
You will find the Darby River on your drive into Wilsons Promontory. The river winds it's way with views of the mountains before flowing into Whisky Bay. Tidal River is located within Wilsons Promontory National Park and flows into Norman Bay.
Fishing
A short stream flowing from inaccessible scrub country in the Wilsons Promontory National Park. Fishing is permitted below the Tidal River Road but no fishing is allowed upstream.
Explore The Prom
Wilsons Prom, or simply 'The Prom', is undoubtedly one of Victoria's most pristine pockets of wilderness. The seemingly untouched sands of Whisky Bay, with its crystal-clear (albeit chilly) sea and interesting boulders had us feeling swept away to an island paradise. After a blissful beach day, we topped it off by a hike up Mount Oberon for sunset, where the views are sublime!
