Pet-friendly
If you dream of leaving the modern world behind and immersing yourself in the great outdoors, then a stay at The Willows could be just the ticket.

Located near Anglers Rest in the remote and ruggedly beautiful Bundarra Valley, The Willows is an authentic working horse property offering homely accommodation and warm hospitality. An hour or so from Dinner Plain/Mount Hotham and a stone’s throw from the Bundarra, Mitta Mitta, and Cobungra Rivers, it’s an ideal base to explore the region’s fantastic cycling, mountain biking, bushwalking, skiing, seasonal white water rafting & fly fishing. And when you come home, you can enjoy a hot shower, tasty meal, and campfire under a blanket of a million stars in one of The Willow’s High Country huts or our Guest House.

The Cattlemen's Hut is a comfortable and rustic cabin with a wood burning fire. We're near the Alpine National Park in a ruggedly beautiful part of the High Country. Our remoteness means we rely on solar so mobile reception is zero or patchy, ideal for a "digital detox". But with outdoor opportunities galore, you'll want to ditch your phone and immerse yourself in nature.

Additional Information

THE HUTS
There are two huts. O'Connells Hut is a cattlemen's log hut that was built in 1904 and the Iron Hut is a corrugated iron hut that was originally built as a 'men's shed' workshop in the 1940s. Both huts offer comfortable, rustic, self-contained accommodation for people who love outdoor life, wood burners, gas lights, camp fires and an outdoor dunny.

The huts have one open plan kitchen/living area with a double and single bed, and a bathroom off to the side of the main room. Towels and linen are provided, and dogs that are kept under control or on a lead are welcome.

Due to our remote location, there is no main power. The property relies on solar and a small hydro system so appliances such as hairdryers won't work. There is no television and mobile reception is pretty patchy. However, you'll be only too happy to turn off your phone and tune into the beauty of your surrounds.

But if you are after a little company, then we recommend you drop in to the Blue Duck for a beer, bite to eat and a yarn with the locals. Perched on the banks of the Cobungra River and just 3km down the road from us, it's a lovely little watering hole to while away a few hours.

RATES
Historic Huts - Each hut accommodates 2 people for $150 /night. An additional 2 people can stay for $150/night in the second hut.

You'll find us at The Willows, 322 Callaghans Road, Anglers Rest, Victoria.
We're about 6hrs from Melbourne via Omeo, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Bairnsdale or Mitta Mitta.

Packers High Country Horseriding

The property is scattered with horses everywhere, some of which you can take riding through the high country if you book in advance. Kathy, who is in charge is excellent and makes you feel at ease on the horses. I think it takes around 2 hours, take a water bottle and a small camera. Backpacks are not allowed. Seriously such a peaceful experience riding through the high country by horse, highly recommended.

Catch Dinner In The Backyard

After settling in, we decided to take a walk around the property, following the flowing the back porch aqueduct to the river just a few hundred metres from the house. With not much else to do other than relax, we decided to cast a line and came back with 2 perfect sized trout for dinner! We even went back for seconds the next night. Yum!

Rivers

Rivers

For some the lure of the High Country is not in our sweeping alpine vistas, but in the iconic mountain rivers and lakes. The Bundara, Cobungra, Mitta and Victoria Rivers Rivers flow through the picturesque countryside. Find a shady spot under a tree for a picnic and cool off in the pristine waters in summer. Floating around on a lilo or tubing is a popular past time.

Blue Duck Inn

Located super close to the Willows, less than 5 minuted I would say the Blue Duck Inn is a great spot for an afternoon drink and a bite to eat. It's located in a great spot right by the river.

Sunset Picnics

Just a few km's down the road (en route to falls creek) there's plenty of campgrounds to pull into and settle in for a picnic. We enjoyed the running water, the moody sky and yummy lunch here!
Bush Walk

Bush Walk

We were feeling adventurous so we walked up along the river and admired the vast range of red and orange autumn colours that lined the banks; it was stunning. You can also wander the property and give the nearby horses a pat.

Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing, Bundara Valley - Jamie our fly fishing guide picked us up in his Landcruiser and we headed down the dirt road to a section of the Bundara river that provided good access and an abundance of open river. After going through some local knowledge on the river and best flies to use, we started fishing upstream.

With our canoe strapped to the roof, we set off on a little adventure to find a place to set sail. We headed about 30 minutes towards falls creek and stumbled across this beauty! Came in to cast a line a catch some fish for lunch, it was epic!
