The Ridge House - Gippsland Getaway

100% Recommended
8 people
Pet-friendly
Four bedrooms. Fifty acres of private West Gippsland bushland. Ninety minutes from Melbourne. Perfect for couples, groups of friends, and families who want to actually disappear into nature for a few days. Pet friendly.

The Ridge House is a fully renovated country home perched on a ridgeline above the Strzelecki Ranges in Yarragon South, with sweeping views toward Mount Baw Baw. It sleeps up to 8 guests across four bedrooms (three queens plus a fourth room with two singles, convertible to a queen on request), so whether you're two people or eight, there's space that feels made for you.

Two private walking trails wind through tall ash gums and fern gullies, including the Tramway Track, which follows the original 1880s logging tramway through the property. Loggers Lookout, a timber platform above the valley, is where most guests end up with a glass of something at sunset. Two indoor wood fires and an outdoor fireplace keep things warm when the temperature drops.

Kristy provides local and homemade breakfast provisions on arrival, including honey from the hives at Green Hills Farm next door.

DOGS
Dogs are genuinely welcome here. Up to two dogs, $50 per dog per stay. The property has no secure perimeter fencing, so dogs should be kept on leash on the trails to keep them safe in the bush. Please bring your own pet bedding; dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture. Use the hose and tap at the bottom of the kitchen stairs for muddy paws, not the indoor sinks or bathrooms. Please collect all waste during your stay. Get in touch before you book if you have any questions.

BEDROOMS
Three queen bedrooms plus a fourth room with two single beds, convertible to a queen on request at no extra charge. Bedrooms not in use during your stay will be locked for your privacy. Additional guests beyond the base rate are subject to a per-person fee.

RUBBISH
The Ridge House runs as a sustainable rural property without roadside waste collection. We ask guests to take landfill and recycling home, or drop it in a bin in Yarragon when you visit town. If that doesn't work for your trip, we're happy to handle it for a $50 fee, which covers transport to the local landfill. Compost is welcome to leave, it goes straight to Green Hills Farm. We'd also encourage you to travel with minimal packaging where you can.

EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS
Micro weddings, bridal stays, anniversary dinners, and private celebrations are all warmly considered. These carry a different pricing structure. Contact Kristy at [email protected] before booking.

Additional Information

“ If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful house and picturesque location The Ridge House will certainly exceed your expectations.” - Claire June 2020

THE RIDGE HOUSE
This 50-acre bushland property is part of our larger working Green Hills Farm. Given the time of the year, you may see our cattle, wallabies, deer, wombats and a stunning array of local birdlife. You will definitely be greeted by our resident Guinea Fowl, Ginny, look for a spare bit of your morning toast.

The house is located on a ridge top in the Yarragon Hills. Its magic lays in the ability for the views to change constantly. In the morning you may feel as though you sit above the clouds as low-lying mist covers the township of Yarragon. In the afternoon on a clear day, you can see all the way to the snow-covered peaks of Mt Baw Baw. When the weather rolls in, you can have your own private show from Mother Nature.

Purchased in 2017, we have spent a year renovating this space to a place we would be happy to call home. It has two new bathrooms, a new kitchen, new flooring, air-conditioning, heating, and new beds and bedding.

BREAKFAST
We provide generous breakfast provisions for your first night of stay. These include locally sourced milk, bread, jam and eggs. Sometimes even veggies or herbs from our veggie patch if they are available. General provisions such as tea and coffee are also included.

GUEST ACCESS
The whole house will be open for your use. There is one locked room that we use for personal storage and cleaning supplies. Bedrooms not booked are also locked.

GUEST AMENITIES
Linen & towels provided
Baby highchair, cot and plates upon request.
Firewood Supplied

DRIVING TO THE PROPERTY
Please note that part of the drive to the property is on a section of gravel road and is set in a winding hillside with blinds spots. Caution is needed - especially at night. The driveway into the property is also winding. It is absolutely safe to drive, but again, drivers need to take it slow and with caution.

PETS
We welcome your pets to stay but there are restrictions because we are part of a larger working farm. See the main property description for more details or message us directly if you have any questions. There is additional charge of $50 per pet per stay.

Beautiful property in a stunning natural setting, no wonder it was featured in several magazines. The house is so beautifully styled, warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped for a relaxing stay.

Kristy was a fantastic host, with great recommendations for nature adventures and local restaurants. We loved the breakfast goodies (especially the apple crumble!) and really appreciated the late check-out.

Highly recommend. We’d definitely stay again.

We had a lovely time at the Ridge House. It's beautifully put together inside the house. The beds are comfy, the linen is lovely, the space is big enough for two families and the kitchen has everythin...g you could need. The included breakfast provisions were delicious and the available wares for purchase came in handy! The Ridge House is not too far located from a range of activities in Gippsland and makes for a lovely, secluded base for lots of adventures.
We hope that in future, the outside of the house gets the same refresh as the inside of the house as there's a few things that made it a bit of a challenge with our tiny toddlers in tow. Overall, a wonderful experience with excellent hosts and we highly recommend!

Every morning the wallabies come as close as they can to the house for the fresh grass. If you're quiet you can sit and watch the mobs grazing.

Green Hills Of West Gippsland

After buying some local delicacies, we loved driving along the beautiful countryside roads of West Gippsland, before stopping at a perfect picnic spot to admire the rolling valley as far as our eyes could see.

Our Local Pub

The Yarragon Hotel is an institution where the locals hang out to share stories, play pool, hope to win the Friday night meat raffle and enjoy great pub food. The dining room is small so bookings are always recommended. Great beer garden too!
