Captains Cottage is tucked away in the rolling hills and gentle slopes of Wooragee valley between Beechworth and Yackandandah, North East Victoria. The Beechworth to Yackandandah Rail Trail is a 31km sealed trail meandering through the spectacular Indigo Shire. The trail is open for all to enjoy and passes right outside our front gate.

As you enter the 14.5 acre property, you will drive over an old wooden bridge built over a creek running through the property. A graceful weeping willow hugs the stream bank brushing the bridge, providing welcome summer shade. With the Chiltern State Forest 2kms north west “down the lane”, and surrounded by alpaca farms, cattle grazing properties and the adjacent Hereford Stud, you know you’re really in the country.

CAPTAINS COTTAGE DETAILS

Back and front verandahs run the full width of the cottage, and provide relaxing places to enjoy the views, sunrise and sunsets.

Timber boards lining the Captains Cottage were retrieved from a little cottage in Albury that used to serve as a hospital decades ago and was due to be demolished.

The kitchen galley includes a working old gas stove, wooden sink benchtop, a compact modern fridge, cupboards, table and chairs.

The living area also integrates restored antiques and modern appliances. The modern TV sits on an antique ice box.

An antique metal locker doubles as wood storage for the open fire, and reverse cycle air conditioning is also installed. The mantle above the open fireplace is crafted from a single slab of local red gum.

The bathroom has a corner double spa bath with an old fashioned rainhead shower over the bath, and a separate toilet with an old fashioned toilet door.

We absolutely love this accom. Just finieshed our second stay. It's gorgeous in the cold rainy weather with the fire on, and then in the hotter weather it's so beautiful to sit out on the front or bac...k verandah. Our dog loves it there too!
There's also a brand new floating sauna in town - totalllllly reccommend checking that out. Also best coffee by far in town is called Little Nev.

Captains cottage was a lovely little cabin on a gorgeous block of land, the weather was cold but the cabin was provided with plenty of firewood to keep it cozy. They welcomed our Dog happily and had n...o problem with him being off lead if I was confident he would be controlled around the animals and their dog. Linda greeted us upon arrival and was very friendly and welcoming to our needs if there were any. Absolutely recommend this for a stay and would go back again.
